Hey everyone! It's been a pretty crazy week. Before I write anything, let me explain my daily routine. Soooo, I'm up every day at 6:30 am. Then I get ready for the day and head to the cafeteria for breakfast at 7:00. At 7:45 I have my first French class until 11:30 when I go to lunch. At 12:15 I go back to my class for more French. I'm there until 4:30 when I go to dinner. Then I go back to class until 8:00 pm. but during this time there's no teacher. It's kind of like a personal study time. At 8:15 I have gym time where I just play basketball with whoever else has gym at that hour. From there it's back to my dorm where I write in my journal or do whatever else I need to do before bed. At 10:30 pm it's lights out and then the routine repeats itself.
So in my French class, where I spend the majority of my day, I have two teachers. Soeur (sister) Vance and Frere (brother) Davis. They both are about 23 years old and went on their missions to Paris. One of them will teach our morning class and the other will teach our mid day class. The crazy thing about these classes is that they never ever ever speak a word of English the entire time so it kind of forces you to learn how to understand the language. In my class there's me and 7 other missionaries. It's amazing how much I've learned so far. I've already given three twenty minute lessons to some of the staff that act as "Investigators" and "can't speak any English." It's actually pretty sick how much more french I've learned in my one week of being here than my three years of taking it in High School.
So my companion's name is Elder Lee and he's from Hong Kong. His english is pretty good but sometimes he doesn't know what certain words mean. One time we were at this meeting where a lady with a thick southern accent was speaking and Elder Lee couldn't understand a word she was saying hahahaha. he's going to the Montreal Mission too which means that he'll be fluent in four languages: English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and French! he's a pretty quiet guy but he messes with people all the time. Like he'll be completely sarcastic to people and they'll totally believe him since he's like pretty shy and awkward. He's not like way strict and boring or anything though...it's just hard to describe. Like one time some of the girls in my class asked how old he was and he said 26 (he's really 19) and they totally believed him and to this day they think he's 26. I always mess with him and talk crap about how I'd whip him in ping pong and he gets so heated hahaha.
So real quick I wanted to describe the gym here. It has a bunch of basketball and volleyball courts on one floor and upstairs is an indoor track for people who want to run. The rules of the gym: no keeping score for anything, no competing, no dunking, etc. It might as well by called "Weenie Hut Junior." I mean I get why the rules are there, (because it really sucks for a missionary to get injured and have to go to the hospital or something) but it's kind of lame. haha.
So even though you'd think my life is super boring and sucks right now considering I'm sitting in a class for basically 12 hours a day, it's really not bad at all. I'm learning so much and I'm becoming so much more knowledgable. You learn a lot about yourself here. I miss all of you guys and I can't wait to see you all again!
