Time to leave for Taiwan

July 2, 2017

I'm writing early this week because I am flying out on Monday morning!! This week has been so long awaited. Although my Mandarin is the worst, and I don't understand anything, I cannot wait to arrive in Taiwan and share the gospel. My mission president's daughter is in our zone, and she said when we get to Taiwan her mom cooks the best food for us. Just the knowledge that I don't have to eat cafeteria food anymore makes me want to shed a few tears of joy.

On Friday, we had to attend this 9 hour long infield training for all those who are leaving this week. We mostly learned the importance of working with members and how to do so (go out with the missionaries!!), but at the end a Spanish elder stood up and offered the prayer. At the end of the prayer, I realized that I have been studying Chinese for 9 weeks and barely understand the prayers, but I just understood a whole Spanish prayer, except for maybe one line!

Our teachers, who served in Taiwan, have been telling us stories from Taiwan, and I think a pretty common theme is that I’ll get hit by a few cars. I think I should be fine as long as I have a helmet, hopefully.

On Tuesday, Elder Bednar spoke to us, with 9 other apostles in attendance. His talk was a masterpiece, and he talked about the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith, and the Word. Something that he pointed out was that if you remember writing papers in school and turning in your first draft, those first drafts were always terrible and full of mistakes. What is amazing is the Book of Mormon is a "first draft" but is so perfect. There is no way this book is not received straight from the power of God. Love the Book of Mormon and read in it daily!!

I love you all,
Elder Marsh
