Happy New Year!

John sent 2 quotes to Mason:

Mom gave me a book for Christmas that I am starting to read. It’s called “The Great Bridge” about the building of the Brooklyn bridge in the 1870’s written by the great American historian David McCullough. I have already found a couple of great quotes I wanted to share with you. The first is from the German philosopher G.W.F. Hegel, “We may affirm absolutely that nothing great in the world has been accomplished without passion.”

The other is by the engineer and main thrust behind building the Brooklyn bridge, John Roebling. He often would say, “If one plan won’t do, then another must.”

Mason responded:

I love that quote about passion. It made me think back to why I decided to serve and the passion, testimony I have for the gospel. I have lately read a little bit about the life of Gordon B. Hinckley. In a sense, his biography (the one found in the teachings of the presidents) has connected to me though the realization of the truly mortal nature of one of Heavenly Father's prophets. You get to experience first hand the weaknesses, struggles, and doubts that he had. What I love about him though, is he always just stays positive and goes forward!

Love you!
