Elder Joel Lopez

Week #45

This week we had two baptisms for the two little girls named Ana and Camilia. The same girls last week that said they wouldn't get baptized until there was warm water. We tried super hard to get some kind of warmth to the water, but it didn't work out so well. So, we kinda tricked them and told them the water was warm. That was bad on our part. lol The first little girl took about 10 minutes to actually get in the water, but finally she did and she started crying and crying and the guy, Baker, that was baptizing her from the ward was trying so hard to stay calm. The water was super cold....I felt kinda bad, but he hurried and baptized her and she flipped out of the water and was like I'm outta here here. lol Then the next little girl was crying because she saw the first girl freaking out so she didn't want to get in the water at all. She took about 10 minutes herself to get in and the guy was like, Ana, the water isn't cold yet his teeth were chattering while he was trying to talk. lol It was pretty funny. My companion and I were dying laughing.

Yesterday we went to a member's house to have dinner and they were serving soup. I was poking around in the pan and pulled out some chicken, which just happened to be a whole chicken foot. I had to eat it because I didn't want to make them feel bad, but it was really hard to eat. It was sooo gross. I don't want to do that again. The members here are so nice to us. We had a lady buy my companion and I some really nice blankets for our bed because she felt so bad that we were freezing in our apartments at night and it's only going to get colder.

So I had an experience this past week that left me being upset with myself for not following the spirit. We had a guy come up to us and ask us if we were Elders. I was like, ya we are and then I asked him if he was a member. He said, no a friend told me who you guys are and what you guys do. We talked for a little bit. He was a really cool guy and the spirit kept telling me to pull out a visit with this guy, but I never did and I felt so bad afterwards. We left him and my companion said the same thing. He was like we should have pulled out a visit with him. I'm letting the mission "rules" get to me and I shouldn't. The mission tells us if they don't want to come to church they aren't chosen the first week and I think that's crap. I'm really having a problem with the pressure that is coming down on us that we have to have a certain number of baptisms each month. It's all about the numbers in the mission and less about really converting their hearts. I don't like that.

We also provided service this week to a little old lady. We pretty much rebuilt her entire roof for her. It was a pain in the butt, but she was so happy that we were able to do it for her, so it was worth the hassle. It was overall a pretty good week! We are headed out today to play some soccer and football on a turf field that we rented out today for P-day. Good times....

Hope you guys all have a great week!
