Campoy, Peru

Elder Joel Lopez

Week #44

Hey everyone!

I know you guys are all in the middle of summer and sweating bullets, but is now freeeezzzzziinnnggg here in Campoy! Like so cold I can hardly stand it some days. This week has been so crazy because the Peru soccer team was in the World Cup for the first time in many many years. The played Denmark on Saturday and pretty much got their butts kicked. Our Mission President gave all of us permission to watch the game because absolutely nobody is in the streets when they play because soccer is so huge here. It was fun to watch but sad they went out in the first round. It was good for the country.

So last Wednesday was by birthday. I had only been in my new area for about a week and a half, but as a special birthday gift I got sent to an entirely new area for the day, so it was just another day on the mission. lol The next day though, a very nice family invited us over to watch a movie and have some birthday cake. It was so nice of them. Their own son just received his mission call. He comes out tracking with us to prepare. We are visiting a couple families who are members, but there are two girls who aren't members. We invited them to baptism and they told us if the water isn't hot they won't get baptized, so we gotta figure something out there to heat the water. It's ice cold.....could be a problem since there are no water heaters here. lol My companion and I fast every week to find new people to teach here.

The mission itself is getting easier. My Spanish has come along way. I do still struggle sometimes finding the right words in Spanish in everyday conversations like when I'm trying to tell my companion a story or something, but when teaching the gospel, I've finally got it all down! The people here are so very kind and generous with their food. I've dropped 12 pounds since Cieneguilla, so that's good I guess. My pants are fitting again. lol

I received a package for my birthday a few weeks back and waited to open everything until it was my birthday. Thank you to everyone for sending all the birthday cards and treats! I loved reading them all! Have a great week everyone.
