We started our week pretty slow. We were preparing for the baptism early because we had divisions on Thursday. so we got everything for the baptismal service prepared and then I spent about two days with one of our Zone Leaders, Elder Acevedo, he was a missionary that was in my district when I first started in the mission so we had gotten pretty close and it was great to get to see and talk and teach with him again. I went to his area which is Parajes, we got two new fechas (baptismal dates) there. Fun fact this area is bordering with the area of the Assistentes so we got to hang with them for a bit which was fun. Acevedo and Vasquez (one of the Assistentes) are going home at the end of this cycle so it was good I got to see them now before they left. Anyway I’m telling you this because while I was there in Parejas I got a call from my comp. (Companion – Elder Fabara) and it was a call kind of like this
(Translated for you non Spanish speakers)
E. Fabara "hey man, I got some good news and some bad news. Well I have two good things for you."
E. Reynolds "um okay? Remember I don’t speak really great Spanish please slowdown"
E. Fabara "sorry guero (whitey), well we have a baptism for Saturday, Angelica had her baptismal interview! And Familia Vaquera want to be baptized and Edgar and Diana said they want to get married so they can get baptized!"
E. Reynolds "That’s great! But what is the bad news."
E. Fabara "Oh yeah that, you have to give a 10 minute talk this Sunday. Good luck. Praying for you." *click*
I didn’t get home till Friday night so I rushed to start my talk. The next day was a blur with preparations for the baptismal service which was absolutely amazing. I love those services. Anyway we had a great service for Angelica Vega her whole family attended and none of them are members! All the better! Then the next day Sunday I confirmed her a member of the Church of Jesus Christ.
For my talk I was a little bit worried for. I hadn't had a lot of time to work on it, but I actually did something I never thought I was going to be able to do. I gave a 20 min talk with just a few notes and scriptures. I was able to talk to the members about how they can serve as member missionaries, a topic that I liked a lot I was able to share with them my testimony and I testified that if a kid from Idaho could come to Mexico on a full-time mission having to learn a new language then everyone is capable of sharing there testimonies with friends, family, and co-workers.
That is my message for all you at home. This work isn’t easy. The missionaries need all the help that they can get from the members and if you don’t think you can just remember the Lord calls the unlikely to accomplish the impossible!
