This week has been a pretty good one here in TKO! The ward here is awesome and missionary work is great. This week we had tons of members making us food and helping us as we taught. Some of the members here are so great at helping us out during lessons and fellowshipping all of the new people we bring to church, and luckily they are fairly understanding of my lack of Cantonese skills.
Also the food here is fantastic! This week we ate all sorts of stuff, homemade pot stickers, lots of rice, noodles, and the veggies here are great. The ramen noodles here are also like 100 times better than the American versions.
This week we received a call from someone who got one of our fliers on the street and wanted to meet. We had a lesson with her, to kinda introduce a little of what we believe, and she was telling us and the member that she wanted to meet again and be taught all 5 lessons at once and be baptized. We were surprised at her willingness and kind of excited for such a seemingly easy investigator. Unfortunately, the day between that first lesson and our next lesson she came across someone or something with very strong anti-church materials and she decided she didn’t want to meet anymore. It just goes to show how hard the devil is working, even when the Lord has prepared someone so much it can be very easy to fall away if we don't constantly seek after righteousness.
On the bright side, we still have some investigators that are progressing very well and they are starting to come to church. While we were teaching a lesson to one of our investigators, and I was trying to understand what was even going on, I received the answer to one of the questions I had been pondering and studying for the past few months. It's funny at times how the Lord answers our prayers.
In this case, the lesson was completely unrelated to the discussion but, because the spirit was there, I received an answer. I had been studying and praying about this question for several months and it wasn't until now that I received it. When we are trying to understand something and asking God, we need to realize that we will obtain the answer not necessarily in the way we think, and in the Lord’s timing.
Hope your week goes well and thank you all for your love and support.
Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton’s companion is from Layton, Utah and they get along great. And the other two Elders in their apartment are also great!
Fun fact 2: He is looking forward to watching General Conference, but they won’t see it until next weekend-and he’s excited to hear it in English.
Fun fact 3: Elder Ashton talked a lot about food this week-he even had octopus-and McDonalds-which he called McDonglouh!
Elder Ashton didn’t send any pictures, but we woke up Sunday morning to an email from a member in Hong Kong. Apparently the missionaries joined the Young Single Adult ward there for (what else) food! He is in the back-the Elder next to him with the pink tie is his companion.
