Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong

Elder Love

I'm here!!!!!

March 27, 2017

This week has been pretty cool! As you probably know, I have made it to Hong Kong alive and well. So much happened this week that it’s honestly kind of a blur.

When we finally arrived we got to meet the mission president and his wife who are super cool and we were assigned trainers. My trainer is named Elder Love and he was actually trained by my MTC teacher On Hingdaih. I was assigned to (the area) Tseung Kwan O or TKO for short. So far everything seems pretty great and the food here is amazing.

This week we had several lessons. One was with Jack who is like 80 years old and he gets his Cantonese and Mandarin confused, needless to say, I had no idea what was going on. We also taught Kitty who is probably in her 40s. This week we taught her about the Plan of Salvation and committed her to get baptized, so hopefully we will be having a baptism April 30th. We've been fairly busy with here between getting to know investigators, less actives and meeting members.

I don't have a ton of time to write so before I finish, let me emphasize how important member missionary work is! If the missionaries work with the members it is so much more effective. Get to know the missionaries in your area, and as you build relationships with them you can help them to bring people unto Christ.

P.S. Sorry no pictures today, we are in an Apple store and these computers don't let us attach pics.

Fun fact 1: Elder Ashton’s apartment is on the 40th floor, and he says the entire apartment is a little smaller than my master bedroom-and he’s sharing it with 3 other missionaries. And his quote: “it’s super cool!”

Fun fact 2: He says he can feel the spirit 90% of the time, even in a busy KFC.

Fun fact 3: He is very excited that his sister was called to the Chile Santiago East mission but it’s “too bad she isn’t Cantonese speaking.” Silly kid! He does admit it would be nice to understand people and she will probably have the edge there for a while!

Fun fact 4: The area he is now in, Tseung Kwan O, from what Google tells us, is one of several ‘new towns’ that is built on reclaimed land. Which, if Wikipedia is telling us the truth, means the town is built on a dump, but for a town built on a dump it’s pretty fancy.

1. Photo that the mission president posted on their Facebook page showing the new arrivals to the HK mission.

2. For fun I’m attaching a picture of the area he is located in that I stole from the internet-no idea where he is actually located as I don’t have an address for the apartment, but I’m guessing in one of those tall buildings.

You can email Elder Ashton at or through this website.

At this time he was told to share the mission home address if you would like to send him regular mail:
