Area

Kwun Tong

Companion

Elder Rodriguez

Headed to the West

Hey everyone,

This week was a pretty good one here in Kwun Tong but, my time here in Kwun Tong is coming to an end. To my surprise, I am being transferred out to spend my last transfer in Kwai Chung.

After spending the majority of my mission in East Kowloon I am moving to West Kowloon. It should be pretty neat. I'll be going as junior companion with Elder Jeppson and whitewashing the area.

The whole Kwun Tong ward was really surprised; they all thought I was going to stay. I'll miss them a lot but I'm looking forward to this next transfer and it will be cool to finally be Junior Companion again. It's been over a year so it will be neat to finally not be in charge.

This week was great though, one of our investigators had some questions about the nature of God and whether or not he really loved us, but as I was studying in the Book of Mormon several chapters really stuck out. A lot of the Isaiah chapters really help us to understand how much God loves us. One in particular was 2 Nephi 16. In this chapter Isaiah is called to preach the Gospel. After being told that very few people would accept his message, Isaiah asks "how long should I preach?" and the Lord replies, "Until the cities be wasted without inhabitant, and the houses without man, and the land be utterly desolate." The Lord is always willing to extend his hand out to those who have strayed from the gospel path, we just have to be willing to accept His help and the Lord will help.

Also, we had fasting testimony meeting this week and one of the members told us the story of how he ended up coming back to activity after almost a decade of not attending. He said that one day, a friend from before (who had been baptized during his period of inactivity) had a feeling while he was attending the temple to reach out, and that eventually lead to this brother's return to the gospel fold.

The longer I serve the more I come to realize the power that is in The Book of Mormon and just how many plain and precious truths are in that Book. The Book of Mormon is true and is such a blessing and miracle in our lives. Anyway, hope y'all have a great week!

Sincerely,
Elder Ashton

Fun fact 1: His new area is about 10 miles (17 km) away. Whitewashing just means that both companions are new to the area. It's a little harder because neither companion already has a relationship with the ward, but it can be a good fresh start too.

Fun fact 2: He thinks he'll be able to Skype home on Christmas day for him (which is Christmas eve for us). He said they will do this on their phones this time-which is new.

Fun fact 3: He's now on his last transfer (6 weeks) and several of his friends who started at the MTC with him are actually going home earlier than him (likely because they're starting school in January). He says it feels weird to be that close and that some of those friends are going home already.

You can email Elder Ashton at joel.ashton@myldsmail.net.

Consider including Elder Ashton when you send out Christmas cards, he'd love to hear from you.
