Wow! This week has definitely been one to remember! There have been tons of really great things that are happening here in the wilderness of Del Rio!
First, We had an AMAZING lesson with one of our most progressing investigators, Martin. Martin is a young man who we have been working with for about 3 weeks now! He is super solid and has already been coming to church for about a year now. He was fellowshipped by a family in the branch, with whom he has been coming with for the past year! He already loves the gospel! He said one of his greatest conversion reasons thus far has been the people! We really do have an influence on those who we bring and talk with! Yesterday was a big stepping point for Martin! He has been coming to church for a year, but has not been meeting with the missionaries because they were a little too pushy. So as we got the notification he wanted to be taught, we decided to take an approach where we are just helping Martin to find his own answers and move at his pace. I think that is something every missionary should do because it helps the investigator to truly become a disciple of Jesus Christ so that after their baptism, they are already ready for what lies ahead! Anyways, Martin was definitely prepared by the Lord to accept this gospel! He is getting ready to go to college and really wants to better his relationship with God at this time! During our lesson yesterday, the spirit truly helped Martin to become converted! He told us a story about his car on the way to church. He told us how he was out of gas and only about half way to a gas station before church on Sunday, when he realized how low he was. So he said a prayer and basically stated that, if God would help him to get to the gas station and fill up so he could make it to church, that he would know the gospel is true. Well not a second later, he saw his little gas needle move ever so slightly up. When he got to the gas station and pulled into a stall, the car died right there on the spot. It was so crazy and he told us that he felt the spirit so strong and that it was the strongest experience he has ever had in his life! What is really crazy is that day, before the lesson, we planned to ask Martin to pray for when Heavenly Father wants him to be baptized and to choose a date through the answers that he would receive. So as we are sitting in this lesson and he is telling this story, I got the strongest spiritual impression ever that I needed to ask Martin to pray about what we had previously planned to ask him, which was, when Heavenly Father wants him to be baptized, and to listen closely throughout the week for his answer. After fighting the impression for about a minute and thinking that he was just going to reject the invitation and stop meeting with us, just as the last missionaries had done, I asked him. I told him that if he had a serious and sincere conversation with Heavenly Father about when he should be baptized, that he would be able to receive and answer about a date and know that it was the date that Heavenly Father wants him to be baptized! HE ACCEPTED!!!! It was such a powerful experience and we talked about how strong we could feel the spirit! It is amazing to recognize the spirit in our lives and truly acknowledge the power it has over so many people! It helps us to make the most important decisions without ever wavering. I am so happy for Martin and know that he is going to see/feel the blessings that come through the gospel.
Second, I got to call my family yesterday! It truly was an amazing experience to have my second call home. The spirit was so strong in the call and it was definitely an uplifting experience for all of us! Man do I love them so much! They are all doing so well and the success they are having in all the different aspects of their lives is incredible! I am so proud of all of them and the things they accomplish day in and day out!
Lastly, I need to wish my mother a happy mothers day! My mom has always been such an amazing example to me! Without my mom, I do not know where I would be right now. She has always been there for me through thick and thin! I have told her everything to make sure and keep her a part of my life, which now I am so grateful for! My mom is the greatest example of service! She serves those around her no matter where she is, always keeping her eye single to those around her! She makes sure to show that same kind of service in the home, helping her stubborn kids to feel of the Christlike love that she has for us, which is unconditional! I love my mom! She is truly one of my greatest friends and has done more for me than I will ever be able to repay! Love you mom, Happy Mother's Day!
