Elder Toone

Small things!

My week has been really good! It has had its ups and downs of course. But just like every week, i have grown stronger in my testimony and my faith/trust in the Lord! I know that He is watching my back and knows my desires. I just need to align myself with his plan and really show him that I love him and that I am willing to follow Him through the toughest of times! Anyways, we were able to meet with all of our progressing investigators this week except for one. We met with Ana & Timothy, and also we met with Martin!
Ana & Timothy: We have been working with them for awhile! They have been investigating for about a year and are really looking like they might take the step to baptism! They have some struggles with family and other things in their lives, but they show a true, sincere desire to change and come closer to God! They have talked about why they want to join and how they want to be an eternal family! We had a church lesson when they came to church the other week that talked about the Priesthood! Ana shared her great desire to have Timothy receive the Priesthood to have the ability to bless their family in many ways! That is something I am so grateful for! I have had the chance to use the Melchizedek Priesthood out on my mission. From giving the Holy Ghost to my recent converts, giving blessings for comfort, to giving a blessing for the sick! It is indescribable the feeling that comes as I get the opportunity to put my hands on someones head and tell them the things that their Heavenly Father wants them to know! Sometimes I get nervous because I want to tell them what they want to hear, but realize that Heavenly Father knows best...I just need to let the Spirit work through me!
Martin: We have just recently started teaching Martin by the second week I was here in Del Rio! He has been attending church now for about a year and has been taken in by one of the families in the branch! He is REALLY good friends with one of the daughters of the family and that is basically how he became acquainted with the church! What is super cool to see is that he comes to church now even when this family might not be able to come! At first, he was coming to be there and support this girl, but now he has truly gained a love for the feeling he gets when he attends church! He loves the people in the church and when we asked what the most converting thing he has come across in the church...what he said really touched me. He told us that the most converting thing isn't the gospel doctrine itself, or even necessarily the knowledge that he has now about life. The most converting and spiritual thing that he has felt in the church is the genuine care that all the members have for his well being. They want him to be his best and have supported him in all that he is doing! I thought that was so cool! It makes me think of how I can be that person that shows that kind of Christ-like love and help others around me to feel it in their hearts! I wish I would've been better at that at home, but I have recently learned as well that we cannot change the past. We are going to make mistakes and there is never going to be a time when we are done making mistakes while we are on the Earth. But, it's what we do when we make a mistake that really shows our character! Whether we offend others we don't know well or those we care about most. Whether our mistakes affect us or affect others. It doesn't matter. We need to do all we can to not make these mistakes...but when they occur, to take the steps necessary to receive forgiveness from those people, ourselves, and our Savior Jesus Christ!
I love my mission and am really enjoying my new area. Elder Toone has taught me so much and I am grateful for his example. I love the people in Del Rio and I am love being a missionary. I can't wait for Sunday so I can talk to you guys on Mother's Day. Have a great week!

Love, Elder Bretzing
