Week 87
This past week has been a time of learning and of revelation for me. We have continued to work with the investigators the Lord has given us, and help them progress towards baptism, while at the same time looking for new families to begin teaching. We have been visiting with as many potential investigators as we can, trying to find them home and see if they are willing to progress in the restored gospel.
I have gained a strong testimony that God leads and guides His servants in His work. During weekly planning this past week, we felt inspired to set an ambitious goal for our area. We want to find three families who are ready to enter the waters of baptism by the end of July! We searched for the Lord’s will in regards to our area, and that is what He wants for us. We have prayed fervently to find those families each and every day. We pray to know where to go, what to say, and how to say it. It’s been amazing to see how God had literally directed us to people in our area that have been able to listen to our message of truth! We met one young man who previously met with missionaries. The first thing he said was “yeah, I definitely want to be baptized!” We're so stoked to help him progress!
We did have a couple of funny experiences! Here’s one. We were looking for a couple of people in an apartment complex (they had a bunch of no soliciting and trespassing signs—like all apartments do) when a lady asked us what we were doing inside the complex. She asked us if we were going door to door. We told her we had specific people we were there to visit, and she said “good answer. I’m the apartment manager here, and I don’t like it when salesmen do that.” We got to know her, and were able to teach her more of the Book of Mormon and it’s role in testifying of Jesus Christ. She wasn’t interested in learning more, but told us how nice and friendly we were. Now, we’re on a first name basis with the apartment manager! 😂
We also had a Moses experience earlier in the week. That’s right, we talked with a bush! 🤣 More specifically a Japanese Maple bush. A man was lying underneath it trimming and cleaning it up, and because he had a bad back (that’s what he told us) he stayed there as we taught him about the Book of Mormon. He was super friendly and nice, and told us his sister would be interested in learning more!
I learned from Alma and Amulek this past week in personal study. In Alma 5 Alma asks a lot of inspired questions to the people that are being taught. One is Alma 5:26:
6. And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the song of redeeming love, I would ask, can ye feel so now?
I have loved applying these questions to myself, and gauging my own conversion to the gospel. I know it has helped me fortify and strengthen my testimony of the gospel!
I love you all! Have a great week! Happy Mother’s Day!
Love,
Elder Kehl
