Day 289 11/25/19
Today I drank barium then got X-rays. It was an experience, barium tastes bad. We went to a lesson but the person wasn't home. Another person we were teaching texted us and said they had found a church and that they were good and wouldn't like to meet with us anymore. We gave a blessing to a member. It was nice, I felt the spirit very strong. We went shopping and I bought a box.
Day 290 11/27/19
Well we had an eventful day. We had a lesson with Robert, he doesn't remember much we teach him and has said that he doesn't want to change. So we keep going over so maybe he can remember something. After we went by two people, both didn't answer. We went by more people after and we talked to a man who was nice and let us teach him part of the Restoration. He was open to accepting a pamphlet and he said he already had a copy of the Book of Mormon. We will go back and see how he is doing. We went by a less active member and talked to him. He was nice and we plan on going back and teaching him, hopefully to rekindle his spiritual fire and get him coming back to church. We gave a blessing to a lady and read Ether chapter 2 with her. I really like verse 17 "And they were built after a manner that they were exceedingly tight, even that they would hold water like unto a dish; and the bottom thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the sides thereof were tight like unto a dish; and the ends thereof were peaked; and the top thereof was tight like unto a dish; and the length thereof was the length of a tree; and the door thereof, when it was shut, was tight like unto a dish."
I think it is important to note that they mentioned that their boat was tight four times. I think it must have been pretty important or else they only would have put it in once. I think of this story as a metaphor for us. Our testimony is the boat, we must make our testimony tight like unto a dish. So that when we are in the sea of life and the mountain waves crash down over us and push us deep into the sea, we can survive and not drown. God will bring us back to the surface as we have faith and trust in him. The holes for air, I think represent our physical needs. We must live in the world to survive, but we are not of the world because it will sink us. Let us not forget that the boat was made to protect not just us but also our light (I think glowing rocks represent the light of Christ). Thus we must make sure our testimony is tight like unto a dish so the we aren't drowned in the sea of life. We do this by keeping the Comandments, giving service, praying, studying the scriptures, doing missionary work, teaching the Gospel, ext. This may be an over examination of a verce but we are told to liken the scriptures to ourselves, 1Nephi 19:23.
Day 291 11/27/19
It is supposed to start raining at 12pm. So far it's windy. It started to rain at about 10:30am. We rode to the other side of our area to visit a Brother Church. We shared the light the world video with him and then biked back to our apartment. I am so grateful for the rain coat, my legs and socks got wet but oh well, for the most part I stayed dry.
It is supposed to stop raining around 17:00. Then rain all of Thursday (tomorrow). We have a lesson at 14:00 (2pm) but I'm drying my clothes so we will be a little late. Our lesson canceled but it stopped raining when we got to the man's house. So that was a nice mercy we saw. Then the sun came out, and we rejoiced in our blessed and happy state.
We went by a man named Armando who I first met on an exchange in our district leaders area last transfer. We read the Introduction to the Book of Mormon with him and invited him to church. We made it back to our apartment alright, just a little cold and wet. Armando also gave us three referrals, it was amazing. This was the best rainy day of my mission. Tomorrow is supposed to rain even more, so hopefully some miracles and blessings are among the water falling from heaven. I know that as we draw closer to God he will bless us and help us in our lives. I made brownies for the district.
Day 292 11/28/19
Well it's raining harder today and it's not supposed to stop until tomorrow. It's building up to be an interesting day. We had district council, the brownies were enjoyed. Well Thanksgiving on the mission is awful, we called a lot of people because it was raining and cold and we wasted this day. I wasted this day, I spent 3 hours at a members house doing nothing, we didn't teach we didn't invite, we didn't talk about anything spiritual. I waisted this day, and that's not okay. It's been stressful, we have lessons tomorrow and we are going on exchanges tomorrow. Things will get better, because I want to be better.
Day 293 11/29/19
We went on exchanges, Elder Roberts went to the District leaders area and I got the district leaders companion. We had a lesson with Robert. I feel like everything we teach him goes in one ear and out the other. We got in contact with Miss Debra, and taught her a little about the Restoration. We gave her a Restoration pamphlet and she said to just drop by to see if she is there. We taught a lesson to some members and helped them set up their Christmas tree. We went by Peter after he texted us and asked if we could push the lesson back a bit, we asked what time he had in mind and he never texted back so we just went over to see. He said 7pm would work but he wanted to meet at a coffee shop not his house. We met at Starbucks (I will never go there again, more on that later). After rescheduling we went by a less active member, she wasn't home. We went down to the beach because Elder Serr wanted sand and ocean water.
He got the sand alright but it was low tide so the ocean was far away from the rocks. I got him ocean water. He put the sand and the water in two plastic boxes. We went tracting and found two people who said we could come back. Exciting. We then went to meet Peter at Starbucks. Peter talked about how we are saved by Grace and not by works and said the same things he said at our last lesson. He said he only wanted to sharpen and test his knowledge of the Bible by meeting with us. Then a man walked up and said he had a question about what we believe about God, he cited two verses in the Boom of Mormon, one in Alma and one in Nephi. He then cited the History of the Church Volume 6 and volume 4. Elder Serr answer his question by saying God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are all united in one purpose but three separate beings. (the off putting thing here is that he already knew verses in the Book of Mormon and even more suspicious he has studied (assuming here) the History of the church, most members don't study it or even know about it.) The man introduced himself as Tony and said that he would give us his phone number so we can set up a time to meet, we got his number and gave him ours. Peter wanted Tony's number as well. Long story short we met with Peter who only wants to bash and we met Tonny who I think is a professional basher. Peter is a red dot (do not Contact) now. I will never go back to a Starbucks. It rained on us as we went back to the apartment. I find it odd that it is only the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints that other Churches go out of their way to bash against.
Day 294 11/30/19
We did weekly planning. We texted the bishop and asked what he wants us to do. He said work with the youth. Our lesson with Armando fell through and we can't get back in contact with Isabel. We went tracting and had little success. It's hard to invite someone to do something when they don't open the door. We found a lady who has many member friends, she wanted us to come in and play games with her 12 year old son and 14 year old doughter. A pile house is what we call this. The lady wasn't interested and said she wasn't religious. We had a member dinner and they had a bird, a Cockatoo to be exact. It was loud and a strange bird.
We taught the Restoration, it was a difficult day. But I did learn that there are two types of apostasys, General and Great. A general apostasy is just when the people turn away from God and his teachings. The Priesthood stays on the earth for a general apostasy. Then the Great apostasy, the truth is lost or changed and Priesthood authority is taken from the earth.
Day 295 12/01/19
Made it to December. It's fast Sunday so I shared my testimony in church. Once again another sacrament meeting plagued by stories. We had a lesson with a recent convert that just got the Melchizedek Priesthood. We taught him the Plan of Salvation. We then went and read the Book of Mormon with Martin. We tried to get back in contact with Armondo but no luck. We went by some less active members and talked to one and learned that another one moved. We had dinner it was good, we shared a quick message about the apostasy. (I feel like a pile. (a missionary that doesn't do anything, a missionary that hangs out with the members, a missionary that doesn't talk to people, a missionary that hides in their apartment) I can do better) we went by some more less actives our of the three we went by one answered. He said he wasn't going to go to the ward Christmas party, he wanted to meet with us. We set up an appointment for Wednesday at 7pm, he told us to bring our Bibles. (most likely a bash) well I guess this week wasn't all bad. We taught 14 lessons and we found two new people to teach. We can't get return appointments with them. I feel like the mission is going to get very long and boring, or at least it has been because our apartment is silent like the grave, no talking is the unofficial rule, not because we are angry with each other, just that I don't keep conversations going with Elder Roberts, and he doesn't start them. Anyhow it's a good opportunity to learn patience, I know I can be with Elder Robert for another month and a half. The fear is that he may become less motivated in the 50 days he has left. But I don't think he will, he is a good missionary, I am blessed to have him as a companion, he is a companion that is willing to FALLOW.
