Week 51 Heroes Get Remembered, but Legends Never Die
Coming up to a year on my mission, I never expected it would fly by as quick as it has. Tonight our new mission president and wife, President and Sister Graham will be coming into the mission (they are currently en route to Tennessee) and last night I had to say goodbye to the Picketts...it's incredible to see how much a mission president and his wife can change your life. Honestly a better term for them would be our mission mom and dad, because they welcomed me with open arms, lots of love, and lots of high expectations.
I am so excited to help President and Sister Graham and the light that they are bringing to the mission! Certain things will change but it will be for the better.
The mission field is an actual "field" in a sense...I was talking with my brother earlier about how in early agriculture, many farmers would use a 3-field system in which they rotated which crops would be used every harvest, to ensure the soil would remain fertile for later harvesting.
It's cool to see how Heavenly Father is like that farmer to us as missionaries and the presidents he calls to hold the keys to direct the work.
I am doing great, I've been more active than ever in missionary work and this is the happiest I've been yet. It is one thing to be busy, and one thing to be active in living the gospel. Do we sometimes wear our busy-ness as a badge of honor? Do we let our busy schedules overtake important relationships, experiences, and memories which Heavenly Father would have us make?
I think of this scripture in 1 Timothy 5:
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
Let us not be idle in planting and harvesting seeds of success in happiness in our lives! When we work diligently without idleness, we will not just make ourselves busy - we won't just being going on a mission, but serving a mission - and not just waiting til our final days on earth before we finally start to learn to live.
