General Conference

This week was jam packed with things to do! Conference was amazing! I really was Spiritually uplifted by every word that was spoken.  Sunday night we were talking to a less active member that watched conference.  He told us that every time he heard President Nelson speak he got chills that ran up and down his arms.  I felt a similar feeling as he spoke as well. The way President Nelson speaks reminds me so much of the way Jacob spoke in the Book of Mormon.  He is not afraid to tell us the Lords will.  Even if it might offend some of us, but just like Jacob, his love is felt and his messages touch us deep.  His messages are plain.  So plain that we not only understand, but we can't misunderstand. I know President Nelson is a Prophet of God and speaks the will of Him.
I also know the importance of coming unto Christ by keeping his commandments.  The scriptures teach us that, "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world..."  This means he gives us commandments for our benefit.  I have come to know while on my mission that the Lord is bound when we obey.  For every commandment he gives and we keep we are blessed in his timing. We have been teaching a young lady for about 4 months now.  She has been on and off with reading from the Book of Mormon.  A few weeks ago we invited her to read the Book of Mormon for 10 days straight and right down the changes she recognizes in her life.  She gladly accepted the invitation and began to read immediately.  We would follow up frequently to encourage her and see how her experiences had been.  After the 10 days we had a lesson with her.  She expressed that she noticed a difference within herself.  She recognized that she was much more happy as she was reading and praying.  Even her Mom noticed the change in her mentality. This last week we had another lesson with her.  As we went to teach her we could instantly tell she had not been reading or praying because of how sad she seemed.  She expressed to us that her Boyfriend didn't like that she was reading the Book of Mormon.  We talked with her a little bit and helped her recognize that when she was putting in the effort to draw nearer to God by reading and praying she was becoming a lot more happy.  After the lesson she recommitted to exercise her agency better and read and pray more often.  She was determined to find more happiness.
I know that by small and simple things are great things brought to past.  Reading and praying may seem to good to be true to come to know a Being who can not be seen.  When we exercise our faith by doing our small part we see miracles.  I love the story of the women in the New Testament who had so much faith that she knew that if she could just reach out and touch the hem of Christs garment she would be healed.  As she touched his garment she was made whole from that hour!  Just a particle of faith allowed her to be healed. The talk in conference that said "If you want have your faith strengthened, DO things that test your faith. "Missionary work tests your faith, but we all know this is the Lords work and our role is to exercise a particle of faith.
