New Castle, Indiana

Companion

Elder Aaron Darrington

Doctrine and Covenants 88:73

The work in New Castle has been hastened! The past weeks have been real stressful! We cover almost two county's and don't have a car, I am leading out the area and don't have a GPS, it is freezing cold, and I feel like my companion might be going insane!! (Don't ask questions about the last thing:)

I was praying on Tuesday and asking God to help us with his work because I know I can't do it on my own. When I finished my prayer I felt a little more at peace but I was still stressed out! I still didn't know what to do to fix all of these problems, so I decided I would just put it into Gods hands and I will just do the best I can with what I have! On Thursday the Cincinnati Young Single Adult Elders called us and said "Hey you elders want a car." Long story short, they brought us a car that night. I was slightly relieved but then stress came over me again... "we don't have a GPS, so we will probably get lost way more with this car" I decided to start going through the stuff in the car. I found a half drank Coke, a bunch of Wrappers, a soccer ball, and a cord. I then pulled the cord out and realized that there was a GPS on the end of it!!!!! Man I was so so stoked!! God really does answer prayers... but that is not the end of it. We had a mission wide call on Friday and during that call they told our mission that we are getting Smart Phones!!!!! The work here in New Castle Indiana (Home of the Hoosiers and people that don't even have a flip phone) has been Hastened!!!

We had a great lesson with the Crane family this week. They mentioned that they ordered rings in order to get married (we haven't even taught the Law of Chastity) so we decided to tell them about how in the temple you can be married not just tell death but for time and eternity. They loved that!!! Then Chris Proceeded to tell us that he has decided to drop smoking cold turkey!! (We haven't even taught the Word of Wisdom) We ended up reteaching the Restoration of the gospel and focusing on Priesthood (because they have already been baptized as a Holy Roller) As we were teaching the Spirit was so strong. It was telling me that I needed to tell them that there is only one true church. I was so nervous because that is such a bold statement. I decided that we would read the introduction to the Book of Mormon specifically the last two paragraphs. When we did this I was then able to testify that "...the Book of Mormon is true, and y'all already know that. Because the Book of Mormon is true there is only one true church. And I know that, that Church is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Days Saints. It truly is Christ Church!" This hit them hard and got them thinking. We sat there for a good 2 mins just letting that sink in. Then I asked (with the help of the spirit) what are your thoughts on that? Chris then said I guess I want to know what church is true to. It was a great lesson!

My Heart is full as I have reflected on some of the messages of our dear Prophet Thomas S. Monson. His last talk given to us was about the Book of Mormon. It is amazing and shows the significance of such a divine Book! It is no coincidence that, this talk was his last. It must truly mean something. And to me it does. "The Book of Mormon has done so much healing in other peoples lives" Some members of the Church might say "why hasn't it done any healing in mine?" I have even caught myself saying this from time to time, but I have noticed the healing power of the Book. The power in reading it everyday
is life changing. It is the Iron Rod (talked about in Lehi's vision) and if we hold tight to the iron rod, when the mist of darkness comes (as it always does) we will not go astray! So I what do we need to do? Hold to the rod!!! Read the Book of Mormon every day. Breath in the words it contains and let it heal you!!

Love Elder Johnson!
