Erlanger, Kentucky

Elder Zach Jones

I found out on Friday I will leaving Lakeside Park and headed for Piqua, Ohio and my new companion is Elder Smith. He was my district leader a few transfers ago and is a really hard worker! I look forward to working with him.

This week was full of miracles, but because I am a little short on time I am only going to share one short one.

It was Thursday afternoon, the thunder was rolling and water was dropping from the sky. It had been raining all night and Elder Jones and I just finished weekly planning. As we were going through weekly planning we were praying that the rain would magically stop right when we finished, but we weren't so fortunate. So what did we do? Grabbed our bikes and went right into the storm.
We had a lesson that was about 45 minute bike ride and we were about 60 minutes away, so we planned to try by a few people along the way.
We were struggling not to slip as we rode up a hill, we came to the conclusion that we need to take a break. As we took this break I pulled out the phone and began to look for people we could visit in the area, on the map. There was no one, so I put the phone down and looked around.
I looked to the left just as a small Honda civic drove by shaking their heads at us. Probably thinking, "wow those guys are ridiculous for being in this storm!"
Then I looked to my right at the house. It was a good size house with a lot of junk outside, obviously a Hill Billy lived there. He had a nice Harley and a small fishing boat. Next to the fishing boat was an old beat up car. As I looked at the car I saw a bumper sticker that caught me off guard. Usually the bumper stickers don't have the nicest things written on them, but this one wasn't so bad... The bumper sticker said, LDS. For a second I was trying to figure out what that stood for. Then I realized, wait, I represent that logo... Again I was taken back, because not even Utah Latter Day Saints put "LDS" on the back of there cars.
After all of these thoughts the final thought that came to me was, "we need to go and knock on this Hill Billies door."
So we did and we met Mike.
He is a member who doesn't have his records in the Lakeside Park ward. He told us that we were more than willing to come back and share a message with him.

There were a lot of things that I learned from this experience but the main one was, "God has given us tools such as phones to help hasten His work, but we still need to look up from them, from time to time in order to follow His will." He is not going to compete for our attention. He has given us the ability to choose. He doesn't force us to choose Him, therefore He will not compete for our attention, but when we do choose Him then we are blessed.
3 Nephi 13:33 "But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his rightouesness and all things shall be added unto you."

I love this gospel and I know it is true!

Love Elder Johnson
