Elder Zach Jones

Well on Tuesday we overbooked our entire morning with a lesson and service (that's a first) so we were a little stressed and we weren't sure what to do. We decided to ride our bikes to the lesson. We planned to arrive a little early so we could possibly be able finish a little early and still make it to our service. We both decided we were going to bike as fast as we could there.
As we were biking I noticed that my companion was falling a little behind (I take great pride in my biking speed, but at times it can be a detriment) I stopped and waited for him to catch up and then we kept going. About 5 minutes later I realized that he was, again falling behind, so I waited for him again. As I was waiting a van pulled up to us and a lady got out. At first I wasn't sure who it was, then I recognized her as Candace!!! She had been on vacation for the past couple weeks so we hadn't been in contact with her.
She got out of the van and I could tell she was really upset, almost on the verge of crying.
She told us that she was so happy to see us (her face didn't really show it though). As we talked we found out that her Aunt had just passed away and it was the anniversary of the passing of her mother. In other words Candace was really sad.
She told us that we needed to meet as soon as possible! So we set up an appointment for the following Friday. Then continued on our journey to our lesson.
When we finally arrived at our lesson we knocked on the door and the guys dad came out and told us that the person we were going to teach was in jail...
At the time I was thinking to myself, "man we put in all this effort, went out of our way to get to this lesson and he isn't even here. Now we have to ride another 30 more minutes in the opposite direction to go do service. Why couldn't God just tell us he wasn't going to be home?"
I know what you are thinking, and it is very obvious the reason why God had us go that way now, but at the time it was hard for me to see the bigger picture. God knew that the lesson would fall through but he sent us that way for a different reason and that reason was to visit Candace!
On Friday we took a member with us to visit Candace. We knocked on the door and Candace came down the stairs smiling from ear to ear. She seemed to be a different person!! We sat outside under her big trees and taught her a little bit about the Plan of Salvation. Part way through the lesson Candace said, "It is a testimony to me that God keeps sending you two to me when ever I need to be cheered up!"
This is a testimony to me that this is God's work! As much as I want to take the recognition for all of these miracles, I know that I cannot. I know that it is God that is putting people in our path. There are to many things that are unexplainable, that are out of my control, and yet they fall right into my control. They don't fall into my control because of anything Elder Jones and I have done, but they fall into our control because this is God's work and he cares about his children. Even the things that I feel like I can explain solidify that there is a God and he cares about us!
AGAIN... I love my mission! Progression is the reason we are on this earth and my decision to serve a mission has helped me progress twice as fast. I still goof on the daily, but because my knowledge of the Savior and His Atonement is progressing, I now know that I can repent and become better.
A young man at the age of 14 years old had no idea that the world was not progressing, he didn't ask to restore the church or to be called a prophet, all he asked was for direction (Like most teenagers are looking for, whether they admit it or not) but when he began to seek for answers God revealed to him the direction to go. He revealed to him more of the gospel that had been lost for centuries. He revealed to him a better way to progress. He revealed to him more information about our Lord and Savior. He gave us more scripture which will allow us to draw nearer to God and ultimately help us know His will. The Book of Mormon was written for our time and "...(We) can draw nearer to God by abiding by it's precepts..." All of these things and much more were revealed to Joseph Smith as means for us to progress. If you don't want to progress then don't read the Book of Mormon. But if you don't want to progress then you won't be fulfilling your divine purpose for coming to this earth. Repentance is the way to progress and repentance is only made possible by Jesus Christ. He is the reason we can Progress.

Love you all and thank you for the birthday wishes!
