Hey Y'all! It's been a while, we had our pday today. Transfers are usually on Monday, so the mission is trying a new thing having pday on Saturday before transfers instead of the day of. So with that, I decided to email today instead of last Monday and then send another one today, I just combined the last week and a half. But anyways, recent news, we got transfer calls yesterday and they are closing down Rockford, so Elder Burton and I will both be leaving. Elder Burton is going up to Gaylord (pronounced gaylurd, and yes that is a name) and I'm going down to Coldwater! I will be the district leader down there, so I'm pretty excited about that! Coldwater is in the Kalamazoo stake, it's one of the most Southern areas, and I hear its a pretty awesome place! I have mixed emotions about leaving Grand Rapids. I love the Grand Rapids area, the ward here and the people! This is really a neat place! I'm excited as well to begin a new phase of my mission in a new area. We will see what happens!
I'll be brief in my comments for each day, but here's the gist.
Tuesday May 24th, we were able to do some contacting, have lunch with Sister Darling in the ward, did some doorknocking, had a lesson with one of our less active/ part member families (which was a great lesson, this guy hasn't been to church in 31 years, and he told us he make it a goal to start coming!), and had our weekly coordination and Book of Mormon class.
Wednesday May 25th, we had district meeting on how to begin teaching a section of Preach my gospel. We had district lunch and then we went to Kent community Services to give service. We were able to teach Gloria and do a little finding. We had dinner with Elder Murphy and Elder Anderson.
Thursday May 26th, after weekly planning, we went finding all day. It was really humid and hot so we were drenched in sweat and rain. We had dinner with the Magistris again, they are an awesome family!
Friday May 27th, we had the opportunity to attend the Detroit Temple! It was such a great experience, I love being in the temple! It is really tiny, but has some exquisite artwork and landscape to it that make it so beautiful! I had a great time there!
Saturday May 28th, We were able to do some more finding, have a lesson with Gloria and go to the Banners for dinner.
Sunday May 29th, was my 10 month mark! It's crazy to think I've been out 10 months! We stayed after church for the baptism for a little boy in the ward, went to The Daniels for dinner (great family), and ended the night with some personal contacting.
Monday May 30th, was the ward memorial day BBQ. It was a pretty awesome turn out, tons of people, good food and fun games like Frisbee, softball, and volleyball. I got a little sun, so that was good.
Tuesday May 31st, we had no miles left, so we walked around downtown Rockford and knocked some doors and talked to some really good people. We then taught Gloria and had weekly coordination and Book of Mormon class.
Wednesday June 1st, we had my last district meeting in Grand Rapids, had lunch/made letters for LA members, went to Kent and did service, and finished the evening with finding.
Thursday June 2nd, Elder Burton and I had a really good day of finding. We were able to talk to a cool guy named Steven, who asked us some questions (and the Golden one, "What is the difference between Mormons and everyone else?") and had a really good conversation with him. He was in the Marines, and so he said he wasn't knowledgeable in religion, but wanted to research it and said he'd call us. We had dinner with the Magistris that evening and had Hobo dinners and I got to burn my 6 month tie mark 4 months late.
Friday June 3rd, we got our transfer calls, started packing, visited some members, taught Gloria (shes doing awesome, I cant wait to see her at the temple soon) and visited less actives.
Today was pday, we were invited by the Brother Daniels to play some golf, so Elder Burton, Thompson, Murphy and I went and played with a few members. Even though I did horrible, I had a blast! We got caught at our apartment because I left the keys elsewhere, but we had a good day. The Hatches took us out to dinner at the Blue Water Grill. Coolest family!
