I had a pretty interesting past week. Kevin was baptized on Saturday! He lives a little bit up the mountain in Feijoal so it was fun walking 45 minutes uphill almost every day so that we could teach him. It was really awesome getting to witness his baptism and then confirmation the next day!
Yesterday I went back up to Feijoal for church. I had to give a talk again and somehow was able to talk for 15 minutes in Portuguese (I guess that's one benefit of not being able to talk fast in Portuguese). I also got to play piano which was a fun experience. I figured I'd get to pick the songs but they already had them picked out so I had to sight read them but its all good because they had picked a couple Christmas songs. On top of that the people here don't pay attention to the actually rhythm and just do what they want so I was trying to do my best to follow along with them while sight reading.
On Thursday Elder Brooksby and I were having some stomach problems so we stayed in his appartment while our companions went out and worked. We found "Meet the Mormons" in the appartment, grabbed some food, and watched the movie and just hung out. Even p-days are really busy so it was nice to be able to just decompress and talk. Also if you haven't seen "Meet the Mormons" I highly recommend it. There was one quote from it that I really liked. Col. Gail Halvorsen (aka the candy bomber during the Berlin Airlift) said "Service is the bottom line to happiness and fulfillment." The only way to true happiness is to look outward, not inward, something Christ so perfectly taught and exemplified.
"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it." Matthew 16:25 I'm so grateful for my Savior who set the perfect example for us. I know that following Christ isn't always the easiest thing in the moment but it leads to true happiness. The Lord truly is never in debt to us. It may not come today or tomorrow but I know the Lord always blesses those that follow Him.
Have a good week yall!!Elder Bennett
