We loved visiting our second capilla abierta (chapel open house) on Saturday, September 14. This one was in the González Catán 2nd Ward. We saw it on the calendar of open houses, wonderfully maintained by President Heber Diaz, counselor in the Argentina Buenos Aires South Mission.
President and Sister Diaz were there, as were the stake Capilla Abierta coordinators, the Veras. The bishopric was not present. It would have been great it they could have been there to hook up the sound system, and to greet the friends and Saints who came.
We could tell that the Veras had worked with the ward to help the members to be ready. The mission also provided support in the form of missionaries (3 or 4 companionships).
Ward leaders did great in talking briefly about ¨their organizations¨. We loved the young men presentation in which adult leaders and youth participated. We also liked the relief society presentation – the sisters immediately quieted the small children (some of whom were having a hard time), with individually-wrapped treats prepared by the sisters.
Interestingly Sunday School was not featured. (We don´t recall Sunday School or ¨Come Follow Me¨ at Chivilcoy either.)
The first tour contained the bulk of the people who attended (50+). It was challenging to lead around and interact with a group that large. It might be nice to launch small groups that could go around simultaneously.
It will be interesting to see what insights are brought up in the mission presidency meeting, to which we have been invited on Wednesday, September 25.
