We got to go on a couple of road trips this week. The first one was on Tuesday—since it was the last day of the month we had just enough miles to go out to one of the far ends of our area and got to meet most of the members who live out there. We also met a lot of dogs along the way and found wild blackberries!
On Wednesday we had our district council and Elder Stubbs taught me how to make some amazing sandwiches known as Rigbys, which we made for the rest of the district for lunch. We went to the Cotherns' home that night for scripture study with the members of the branch, and Sister Jones brought a friend named Heather and her daughter Hailey, who both really enjoyed it.
We also made a Gospel Jeopardy game to play with some of the kids we've been teaching and it was a lot of fun. It's interesting to see how some siblings get super competitive, but others are super nice and try to help each other. We played it with the May family's kids one night, and then another day with Sister Jones' family and Heather. We haven't even had the chance to have a full lesson with Heather, but she did great at the Plan of Salvation section of the game!
The other roadtrip was when we went up to Jackson on Friday to get an estimate on having the dent in our car door fixed. They said they'd need the car for two days so we're waiting to hear back on how that's going to work in if we end up taking it in to be fixed.
We also had a really great lesson this week with a guy named George we've been visiting. He actually lives right by us so it's really easy to go see him. We talked about how sometimes the burdens we carry help us to rely on God more and make him a bigger part of our life. I think it really helped him to have a better perspective on some of the things he's been going through.
We also got to see George's mom that same night. We accidentally went to the wrong house at first and the lady ended up basically trying to tell us our beliefs were wrong and that we're on the right path. She at least wasn't rude about it, but it is always funny when people try to teach us instead. We ended up finding George's mom right after and had a really great visit with her, so it was totally worth it. She told us how she didn't want to talk to us the first time she met us at George's place, but said she ended up actually having a great time talking to us and kept saying how she'd like us to come by again sometime.
This week's invitation will go along with that experience—the challenge is to go out of your way to get to know someone better. I know we miss out on a lot of opportunities to get to know people we could otherwise have missed out on because we don't make the effort.
Love y'all!
Elder Taylor
I'll hold off on individual captions this week since I need to get going and they're all just dogs. The big one is named Moki though, and the owner said I can have him.
