I spent the fourth of July playing soccer. God Bless America! πΊπΈβ½οΈπ²π½
If I had a nickel for every time I've been told I don't look white on my mission, I'd have a surprising amount of nickels. That still couldn't buy much but I bet I'd get at least a quarter out of it.
Some sassy older black guy from the south this week was like, "you don't look white, what are you? "
I really don't know how to respond to someone questioning my race, I'm open to suggestions of witty comebacks, because I got nothing.
Speaking of diversity (don't hear that a lot in Southern Nevada) I spent Independence day morning playing soccer with the Spanish branch in Pahrump. That was fun, but felt so un-American to play soccer on the fourth of July lol. We also had to turn in early because our mission president said so, so no fireworks...
Next 4th of July I'm gonna go see so many explosions. It's my American right!
We went to Death Valley last p day, it was very hot. Also, I laid down on Badwater basin, which is a giant salt flat like over 300 ft under sea level. For reference, the lowest point in Nevada is 275 feet ABOVE sea level.
So I guess you could say I was at rock bottom π₯π₯πΊ
It seems every time someone answers the door, they say something along the lines of "What are you doing outside, it's way too hot outside!!" And I completely agree, and again I have no good answer because by all logic and reason it makes no sense to be outside at 118 f. But heaven is still working miracles even when it's hot as hell! π€π₯
(I bought a sun hat. I can't wear cowboy hats, caps, or bucket hats, but I can wear a sun hat ππ»)
There's a family we're teaching who everytime we go by we play frisbee in the desert dirt with all the weeds and stuff. It's an awesome way to connect with their family, and it reminded me how when I was at SUU before the mission, before I started going to church again (because to that point I hadn't gone regularly in quite some time) I was invited to play ultimate frisbee by my roommate, and I ended up meeting a lot of great friends who turned out to be in the ward I didn't know I was in, and I started feeling the spirit more in my life from that point on.
So basically, great things can start with frisbee. Go play frisbee. Or just throw a disc at someone, I'm sure a plate or something will work. Frisbee=doctrine.
Also, Kylie who we're teaching gets baptized in Utah this week! So, yay. ππ»
A little spiritual thought, I read Jacob 6: 12; " O be wise; what can I say more?"
Which as translated by Elder Smith my companion,
"Don't be an idiot".
Truly an inspiring doctrine.
God bless ya'all, Love you mucho

Bamboo! In Pahrump. It was pretty wilted. Also, new hat.
Badwater basin, the lowest point in North America!
