Utah??!! And the Middle of Nowhere 🏕. And aliens probably too 👽.
So much to do so much to see
I'm going to Utah!! Or more accurately, I'll be in Cedar City today!
No, the president didn't send me home- the Cedar City temple is in our temple district in Alamo, so we got permission to go there for a temple trip! We'll just dip into Utah and then back. So that's awesome! (Next week I'll include a pic of me there).
We do a lot of traveling out here in the wild. We have a member who lives out in the middle nowhere, and he travels around in his RV with his family. A recent convert lives in a tent next to their RV, they're like nomads, and they're awesome. They had to light a signal fire so we could see where they were from the highway, we had to drive for 25-30 min to get there.
We also went to Area 51 👽 this week! A member owns a ranch on the land up there and we were there visiting some folk at the ranch. Not much to look at though, just a lot of desert and nothing. IF we drove any further past, a government truck would have chased us down and given us a minimum 1800$ fee. And probably tazed us or something. So, don't get too close to Area 51. The member there had a mailbox by the road, but people thought it belonged to aliens because it's in the middle of nowhere, so it's covered in stickers and full of beer, cigarettes, letters, and other stuff. It's the apparently famous "black mailbox". They get their mail via FedEx now lol. The members there also have a YouTube channel, "Anchor Brand Ranch"- so shoutout to the Hughes, they're great.
Had a good lesson with a guy named Tom, we started out talking to him about trucks. Let me tell ya something, if you can hold a conversation about cars/trucks or sports, you can talk to pretty much anyone here. Trucks are cool though, I love em. I just nod my head and pretend like I know what they're talking about sometimes though.
Had another dinner with the Fultons, they're awesome. It's the perfect situation for a missionary- they're awesome cooks, have us over for dinner every week, and we teach them the gospel. 👌🏻
We went up to Caliente for a quick exchange before the temple trip, the elders there live in a slightly cigarette smelly apartment above a bar, which is an interesting choice for missionaries. Lots of ranches and fields out here.
📖 Scripture Power:
I wanted to share this from 2 Nephi 19:3-
"they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest"-
I got two things from this;
1. That the harvest (gathering scattered Israel) is something we can find joy in- and according to the Prophet is the most important thing we can be doing.
2. That the joy is IN the harvest- not from the results. We can find joy in the PROCESS of gathering Israel, not just when it's finally all together and Jesus is here and we're all resurrected and stuff.
There is JOY to be found in gathering Israel- so go find some joy today by doing what Jesus taught- Love One Another!
💙 Love y'all
