Man there's been a lot going on this week and there's a lot more to come!Â
The big thing is that Sandra gets baptized this Saturday! WHOOO! We've basically finished all the lessons and she's doing great. She even sat next to us at church.Â
Had a lesson with a guy named Enrique this week, he's a tailor who used to live in Utah and made $6000 suits for Mitt Romney and Thomas S. Monson once. His family speaks Spanish so we sent the Spanish missionaries to him, but it was a good chance to practice my Español!
My Español learning is going slow but steady, I've been asking advice from full time Spanish speaking elders. What helps the most is reading the Book of Mormon side by side English and Spanish (I found a digital version). It's definitely something I'm enjoying though, I was apprehensive at first but I really like it, and hopefully I'll be able to use it one day to share the gospel. I remember earlier in my mission I tried learning Japanese for fun, but it didn't last long. But I'm more dedicated to learning Spanish because there's a lot of people who speak it here.Â
We had an exchange with my awesome district leader Elder Sampson, he is such a kind guy, and one of my favorite people I've served around. We talked to 58 people in one day, which might be a new record for me?!Â
Had a lesson with a guy named Jason. He's really into video games and virtual reality, even though he's in his 50s, and he has a super elaborate setup. Unfortunately he has a ton of physical problems, which is mostly what he talked about, so we taught him how Jesus can help us in every way through His Atonement.Â
We also went to the temple this week, it was the first time I've been in a long time since it was closed for most of last year. Las Vegas temple is really cool, a very unique design. We had to drive through parts of the strip to get there- symbolically, I thought, going through a little bit of Hell to get to a whole lot of Heaven!Â
So this was an insight I had from my studies this week:1 Nephi 20:17-Â "And thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I have sent him, the Lord thy God who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by the way thou shouldst go, hath done it."
I didn't know when "Lord" referred to Heavenly Father or Jesus Christ. So I tried to research when the title was referring to who. A scripture came to mind I had recently read-
In John 8:19, it says: "if ye had known me, ye should have known my father also".Â
Jesus Christ is such a perfect representative of the Father that when we know Him, we know exactly what Heavenly Father is like. The term "Lord" is applied to both of them in the Scriptures, and they are both deserving of the prestigious title. (Although I believe most cases in the Scriptures it usually refers to Jesus Christ)
If you try to follow the characteristics of Christ, you are trying to follow the character of God. By being Christlike, you are helping someone to know the character of their God, as Jesus did.Â
Also wanted to share this quote by Hyrum Smith;"Charity is the ability to separate the man from the things he does"
