Peak mission moment + peppermint cake 🍰
Literally had the BEST moment of my mission this week- baptizing Debbey!! It was such a special, spiritual experience. It was also the best baptism I've been a part of on the mission, although I'm biased. I was the one to baptize Debbey, and it was the first time I've ever baptized anyone! She's like, the nicest ever. She had been looking up LDS baptism tips online I guess, and she asked me to step on her toes in the font so she didn't slip. I'm like, OK, we can do that lol. We get in the font, I step on her foot, and the baptism goes perfect, ideal dunk. The spirit definitely helped me out, because halfway through I realized she wasn't all the way down so I had to push her under haha. But it went great. Immediately after she got baptized, still in the font, she asks "is that it?" So I say, "yep, that's it, you're good!"
Afterwards, she very happily exclaimed with a grin on her face- "you stepped on my foot!".
Debbey is awesome.
After the baptism, she bore her testimony at the end of the program. It was the. most. Beautiful testimony I've ever heard in my life. It was simple, and pure, and I felt the spirit so strongly I felt like the celestial kingdom was right next to me.
I know this Church is the true church of Jesus Christ, because that feeling was undoubtedly the Holy Ghost. Without question.
So, Debbey's baptism was definitely the highlight. Actually, my companion was really sick the day before her baptism, but a great miracle happened because he felt better the next morning.
The miracles don't stop there! We also got in contact with our recent converts James, who had kind of gone mia for a few weeks- literally right after he got confirmed he kinda disappeared.
Through some missionary detective work, we found his new temporary number, and saw him at church that Sunday! Turns out he's been living pretty rough for a while, and his phone broke, so seeing him back at church was a big miracle! His faith is pretty powerful, because he walked for miles to make it to church.
Also, a slightly less impressive but still something I would consider miracle-adjacent, I discovered peppermint cake. The Websters had us over for dinner, and made peppermint cake for dessert. It's my new favorite cake. It's basic angel food cake with a tasty peppermint frosting with crunchy peppermint bits on top. Very good. 🤌🏻
We also had a first lesson with a lady named Cheyenna, whose personality I could only describe as "bubbly". She was literally the most eager to meet with missionaries than I've ever seen. She had to reschedule, and sent us a pic of her work schedule for proof haha. She had met with missionaries when she was younger, but didn't feel like it was the right time then, but now in her 30s she says she is ready to learn more! It was a very good first lesson, she said she already believes the book of Mormon is the word of God!
Miracles are everywhere, and so are dust mites. Love you all, Christmas greetings from Sin City!
