some absolutely SICK missionary work
Bleahhhhhhh OK so I was sick for most of the week, that cold hit hard. Mega sniffles.
But I'm doing better!
Except I got my hand mushed. We were at an event called "Art in the Park", (where we got some free tacos and a lady named Sonya gave us some bracelets), and we went to help a firefighter lady take down her tent, and the poles slammed together on my hand pinching it on the fleshy part between my index finger and thumb, and holding it their until we managed to get it free. The firefighter lady ran over to the snow cone truck, then put ice on my hand to try and get the swelling down enough to pull it out.
It was kinda scary, but I got it out. Gave me a pretty bad welt and bruise though. Battle scars 🦾
We had a big miracle though, James got baptized on Sunday!!!!!
It took a lot of work, and many times I didn't know if it could happen, but he did it! And despite all the difficulties, hearing his testimony at his baptism made it all worth it. He was really grateful, and I've never seen him more emotional. The Lord is definitely looking out for him.
(His story is pretty long and complicated, it goes to before we met him in August, but essentially he was able to overcome a lot and his baptism is the result of many miracles)
Went on an exchange with Elder Simpson, he's awesome. We talked about Art, fashion, design, and comedy together. We went to a place called the taco stand, pretty close to the strip. It was totally legit. Baller tacos.
We got enlisted to help some other elders with a "service project", that was actually someone taking advantage of missionaries for free labor.
We should've thrown a revolution and left. But we helped anyways lol.
Our friend Kevin isn't doing great health-wise, which stinks. He wants to get baptized, and wants to come to church, but he is often too sick to come to church and he needs at least 3 church attendances to get baptized. Thankfully, Brother Hyer in the Ward has done a great job being a friend to Kevin and even if we have to stop teaching Kevin for a while since he can't progress at the moment, it's nice to know he has a friend in the church now.
We visited Jacklyn and her daughter Riley, (recent converts), seems like they're doing a bit better than last we saw them, which is great. Whenever we visit them, it turns into a long conversation on their porch, listening to the Spanish music always playing nearby. We invited them to go to the Zions Youth concert with us, which we were lucky enough to get tickets for.
Doron, the Jewish guy who made steaks for us a while back, got back in contact with us. He explained some of his beliefs, he's very open minded and has some pretty unique perspectives on religion (i.e. Jesus being an alien in a flying car, etc.) It'll be interesting the next time we visit with him, to say the least haha. Hopefully he will accept the Book of Mormon.
I highly recommend giving the talk "imperfect harvest" by Elder Stanfill a re listen. Literally teared up reading it. Probably my favorite conference talk ever.
Stay Cool 🧊 Love y'all!
