Boyoboy, whadda week!

So, every other transfer I've had so far I've put a total of 2 people on date for baptism. I set a goal to invite 2 people to be baptized this transfer, and now we have 3 people on date! So I've seen a lot of miracles in this area.

The person we put on date for baptism this week is a young teenager named Kayden, who has taken all the lessons but didn't want to be baptized by anyone other than his dad. The problem was, the dad wasn't worthy at the time to baptize him. But through some awesome miracles, the dad started coming to church again and is trying to be worthy to baptize, and Kayden agreed to be baptized!

We took Kevin on a church tour this week, he loved it but he still psyched himself out and didn't come to church. But he's really eager to come to church so we invited him to commit to coming this week, and he said he would. I've had the opportunity to teach some really nice people on my mission, which is great. Kevin keeps asking us to bring cookies to the lessons though 😅.

Had an interview with the mission pres, president Nielsen. He's so awesome, I've legit got the best mission president. He's super nice and always helping the missionaries to have good mindsets and improve themselves. I could see him becoming a general authority one day tbh.

Me and Elder Taylor did a service project at "The Garden". It's a community garden right smack dab in the middle of Vegas. We uprooted some trees and pulled some weeds. It felt strange for something so rural to be in the middle of a huge city. It was fun though, I got to whack some trees with a shovel trying to get the stubborn Groot wannabes out of the hard Nevada ground.

We also stopped by Jacklyn and Riley again, unfortunately they didn't make it to church but Riley is out of the hospital now which is good.

Something funny that happened, we were knocking some doors of less active members, and a guy named David invited us in, gave us a rootbeer, he was pretty chill. But the problem was, he ended every sentence....

With a dramatic pause. Every. Sentence. The "quick visit" lasted for 2 hours lol. He talked about some funny things too, like how his dreams helped him find a murder weapon, when he worked for the cia and helped build and assemble nuclear weapons, how his ex wife cheated him out of tons of money, etc. You run into some fun characters out here in the mission.

I also had the most insane lesson on my mission, which is saying something. The kids were kinda nuts, the lady we were teaching, she had to keep one of em from eating his own poop (God bless em). Thank goodness our ward mission leader was there to help haha. There were also 2 dogs running around all over the place acting crazy as well. The tricky thing is that it seems she was genuinely interested in hearing more, but that environment was not ideal at all 😬.

But it's been a pretty great week, lots of lessons and visits. As I get closer to my year mark this October, I've been reflecting about the past year. I've probably met and talked to more people in the past year than the rest of my life combined. I've never worked harder or more in my life. I've never felt spiritual promptings so consistently. Serving a mission is awesome. It can be kind of crazy sometimes, but that just adds to the character of it.

I think the biggest thing I've learned in almost a year of missionary work, is that developing spiritual strength requires genuine effort more than it requires ability. One of the most impactful lessons I can personally attest to and testify of myself through personal experience, is that Jesus Christ truly does want our broken hearts and contrite spirits- everything else is secondary. As long as we come to him with an earnest desire, even if its just a seed of faith, we will be able to fulfill ALL commandments God gives to us.

God bless ya 🤙keep on keepin' on
-Elder "🎸" Rogers

-McMansion from the outside (it's the very small building in front of the big one) Definitely the nicest neighborhood I've lived in on the mission

-weird van we came across covered in strange art. And it has fins. Who puts that many fins on a van?..

-we totally saw a UFO careening across the sky the other night. Definitely aliens.

-closer pic of the UFO- it was pretty bright and had a trailing cone of tendrils behind it. Definitely aliens.
