Good Vibes and Sunny Skies, with a chance of rain
Another vibey week, it's been awesome! We had 2 more lessons with James, his car actually broke down so we drove out of zone so we could have our lesson at a McDonalds. Gotta do what ya gotta do 🤙.
We had some serious rainfall this week, monsoon season as its called. There's a joke that there's a hidden "Charleston river" (Charleston st, it gets super flooded). It seriously poured down some rain, it was like having a lake dropped down from the sky, which it's very rare to have any rainfall in Nevada, so it was actually a fun change of pace.
I went and helped out at a charity, which hands out food to people- every time I go to that particular one, I end up getting yelled at by one of the micromanaging volunteers. All I was doing was stocking shelves 😩!!
Met with Kevin again, what an awesome dude! We brought a member who works as an anesthesiologist, and the member kind of went off about how he saw some people die tragically, and how they felt like they knew if they were going to heaven or hell- Kevin actually really liked what he was saying, and he was more talkative than he's ever been! Next time we meet with Kevin we're going to ask him to be baptized.
We met with an older veteran guy named Uncle Joe, who moved back to the states from China a little while ago, and wants to get back into church (he's a member). He's a really nice dude, gave me some spicy Ramen for no reason. Not even my comp, he singled me out and was like, this is for you- and handed me some spicy Ramen. Cool I guess haha! He's a pretty heavy smoker, he started again when he was in China, so we're gonna help encourage him to be able to hold a temple recommend again.
Met with Jacklyn again, and we got to meet her daughter Riley. They're legit some of the nicest most fun people to talk to, but they're going through some really tough health challenges. They call the area they live in "Little Mexico" lol, so we started calling it that too. We gave them blessings on their porch while some Hispanic music was blasting nearby- the spirit was super strong, they're awesome.
I met this Pacific islander couple in our ward, Myra and David. They're awesome, super friendly. David is trying to start coming to church again, but he gets anxiety pretty bad. But he made it all the way to the church parking lot, which is awesome progress! They also gave us some food and money when they found out we didn't have a dinner, they're so nice and awesome.
We also moved some branches for a member. Tree gains 💪
Something that's stood out to me in my studies is the concept of eternity, and how it relates to God's plan. Somehow, the trials and experiences in this life help prepare us for an existence with our Heavenly Father, and to fulfill our status as Joint- heirs with Christ (Romans 8).
We endure a little suffering now, so we can have an eternities of joy. But that eternity has a progression of its own, although I don't understand it all right now. But because I know that God loves his children, I have a testimony that this life is a time to search for and find Joy, and that's possible because of Jesus Christ. And we can also have a hope through faith of an eternal joy.
