Area

Las Vegas, Nevada

Companion

"And like dragons did they fight"

What a fantastic week! Although it's still taking some time to get adjusted to the new area, it's been going really well. I took for granted that I knew most members' names in the last ward I served in, because now I have to dust off my people skills and learn a bunch of new names!

But there's been a lot of great stuff to happen in the new area- several people to teach and visit and help. It's been keeping us busy. There was one experience we had, where we went to visit a part-member family. Only the father was there (he was an active member, his son was less active and his daughter in law wasn't a member), so we thought it would just be a quick member visit. - But as he shared some life experiences, I felt prompted to ask him about a time when he's received answers to prayer.
I'm still learning a lot when it comes to listening to the spirit, but both me and my companion felt compelled to just stay and listen to his stories, for quite a while. We barely said anything. That man said that he truly felt the spirit there, and that he wanted his family to be blessed. We assured him that the Lord wanted to bless his family, and we shared a tender moment. - Although we ended up really late for our next lesson haha. But when the spirit suggests that you do something it's always a good idea to do it.

There was another time where we were walking down the street, and a bunch of kids ran up and approached us- the most vocal of the group said "Are you gonna read us some bible verses? Read us some bible verses!"- There must have been something like 13 or so kids there in the middle of the street, and thankfully the spirit helped me out again. I launched into an improvised lesson using the sermon on the mount in both the BoM and the Bible and taught about how Jesus taught everyone to be humble and kind. It was not the best lesson lol, but a lot of the kids politely paid attention before going back to riding bicycles or playing basketball or whatever. It was a fun moment.

Being in two new wards, with a new zone, a new comp, in a new apartment, took some time to get used to- I still am I guess- I sometimes feel like I have to "fight like dragons" to get everything done that we need to. However, in my personal studies I read D&C 121:7:

"My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment"

These are the words of the Lord spoken to Joseph Smith while he was imprisoned in Carthage Jail. Although my personal afflictions and trials are nothing compared to what he went through, the Lord's promise of our adversities not lasting forever still remains, and I take a lot of comfort in that. When we follow the Lord, peace is always the outcome. Maybe not at first, maybe even not after a while, but peace is our eternal destination.

That being said, the mission has still been a lot of fun. I even get to play DnD still in my new zone! And Elder Buhler, my mtc comp, is in this zone! Plus, everyone in the wards have been really friendly and kind, and my companion Elder Ivey has been a lot of fun to work with. So life is good.

Hope you all have a great week!

Sorry i didn't take photos this week! But I will share a couple drawings I've done recently;

My new DnD character, Rezan Firebrand. He's a dragonborn monk who uses fiery martial arts

And my drawing of Mary Magdalene from the bible
