Merry Christmas

Season's greetings from sunny Las Vegas!

It's been an eventful week, with lots of Christmas merriment.

We had a lesson this week with a guy who wants to be a better father and husband, and thinks that learning more about Jesus Christ would be a good way to do that. It was an awesome conversation, I really felt the spirit during it. I also had an oppurtunity to give my first blessing on the mission, to a woman who was recovering from the flu and had anxieties.
That was actually during an exchange where I went with Elder Compos for the day, he's awesome to hang out with and teach with.

There was also a Christmas Zone conference, where we got to watch a MOVIE! We saw "The Other Side of Heaven", about a missionary sent to the Tonga mission in the 50's. It was really good, especially since I haven't seen a movie in quite a while.

Christmas eve was quite eventful, the dog who lived downstairs turned on their gas stove while the owners were gone, and it filled the whole building with natural gas for about 7 hours. It took a while to air it out, and we called our building coordinator and he called 911. So not to brag or anything but we got to see a fire engine roll up Christmas eve. They checked it all out, and it looked like we aired it out enough to where it was safe.

And our mission president gave us special permission to call on Christmas eve, but with all the commotion I forgot to call, so I called my Dad thinking it wasn't too late, but I forgot about the time zone difference and I woke them up. My bad!

Christmas day was pretty relaxed though, we just kind of hung around and called family, ate junk food, opened gifts.

I want to share something I wrote on Christmas day, which I called my
"Christmas Testimony";

"Something I've been thinking about this Christmas- To have hope is a commandment. I read it somewhere in the Book of Mormon the other day. And commandments are given to us to help us become more like our savior, and to return to Him again. So that means that Jesus Christ had hope. Hope for all of God's children, hope for his destination after his mortal experience. But I believe he had hope. And the reason he gives us the commandment to have hope, is because He is the light and life of the world. He is the gift- the gift of hope.

He gave us hope, and wants us to accept that gift through His atonement. How grateful I am that he came to the Earth, to save us from our fears, our tribulations, and our afflictions, by giving us hope.

I love my savior Jesus Christ, and I love the gift of hope He brought, when He was born in a manger under a shining star.

Merry Christmas, Love Elder Rogers"
