Tifton Transfer 15 Week 2
WHAT is crackalackin mis amigos. Been a good week? Great. Oh it's been excellent here in the promised land of Georgia. Oh and by the way, I've come to a conclusion. When Lehi and his family were commanded to go to the Promised Land, God was in reality talking about southern Georgia. Spirit confirmed. Known fact.
Annyyways, let's get down to business. Because, as Elder Branham would say, this was a GAS week. Chock-full of miracles, meetings and mayhem. The whole shabang. Starting out, we've just been so full of meetings this week. District Councils, ward meetings, and the big dog, MLC. They're all good, but as President Wood would say, we've perfected the art of meetings in our church. We sure have a lot of them. MLC was super hype though. We drove down thursday night, stayed at our bois apartment the Jax West ZL's (Elder Molisi, Elder Ulrich, Elder Williams). That was such a blast. Then we had MLC the next day. It was good, most of the talk revolved around helping missionaries focus on the basics.
So much of my mission, there's been talk about the "next big thing", the type of missionary work that would baptize nations. But quite honestly, what works works. God blessed us with the basics (the Book of Mormon, the spirit, the gospel of Jesus Christ), and that's what He has ordained to bring Salvation and Exhaltation to His children. Now why isn't it easy, you might ask? Why don't the bearers of good news find it easy to bring people to Christ? Well, because salvation isn't easy. Receiving grace, receiving the blessings of the Atonement, isn't a cheap experience. And as Elder Holland says, why should this attempt to bring salvation be easy for us, when it was NEVER easy for Him. Christ, who faced, and fought, and overcame everything, had to bleed from every pore. So we sure can focus on bringing the basics to God's children, and accept the fact that we may need to bleed a little bit symbolically. It's all about the basics y'all, reading the Book of Mormon, praying, going to church, following the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And if you feel yourself floundering a little bit, become more intentional with the basics!
So MLC was good. Emptied my tank though. The meeting went from 9-4, then we had another 3 hr drive back to Tifton. So we were gassed. But good stuff of course. The rest of the week wasn't anything too crazy. Tradeoffs with the AP's which are always fun, they came up to Tifton and we got some bomb work done up here. We also had some fire lessons throughout the week, with mostly our main people (Louise, James, and a guy named George that we started teaching). So teaching's going good. We did have quite a few people flake out this week which is always tough, but obviously the Lord had other plans. Because after we had a lesson that would fall through, we had time to look around and find people nearby, outside, that we could go testify to and extend copies of the Book of Mormon to. So the Lord provides.
Thr last exciting thing that we did this week was finish up a Book of Mormon reading challenge. Basically what we did, is starting Jan 20th, we tried to read the Book of Mormon in 65 days. We picked 65 days, because it's accepted fact that the Book of Mormon came into existance in 65 days. Whether you believe Joseph Smith wrote it himself, or he translated the plates he was given through the power of God, he did it in 65 days. So the challenge took us until this Saturday, March 26th, where we finished up reading it.
The point of the challenge, was to show us that no man could do the work that is the Book of Mormon, unless he did it through the gift and power of God. That book is a literary genius. The feelings it envokes in me, the closeness I feel to my Savior as I read it, the questions of my soul that it answers, no book does this more for me than the Book of Mormon. A book, that the world claims, was simply written as a fraud by an unschooled farmboy, in 65 days, with no notes, no revisions, only one solitary draft. No wicked man could write this book, and no righteous man would, unless he were commanded by God, and given divine assistance. It's true.
So after we finished the challenge, we had a zoom call with Brother Steven Harper, a professor of church history and doctrine at BYU. He's an absolute genius y'all. He gave an awesome presentation about what the Book of Mormon does, in testifying that Jesus is the Christ. He mentioned something that I thought was interesting, in calling the Book of Mormon the most intentional book on this planet. It knows its purpose, it knows how to achieve it, and it knows how to envoke feelings of love and admiration for your savior in you. And I can testify of that as well. Nothing has brought me closer to the Savior than the Book of Mormon. It adds to the bible clearer witnesses that Jesus is the God of the old testament, the New testament, and now. And that only through Him are we saved. So it was such a beast presentation.
But honestly that's about it. Forgive the soapboxes throughout this email haha, this one is a longer one. So if you got through it without falling asleep, give yourself a pat on the back. And if you got through it and you haven't read the Book of Mormon yet, do so! Read it in 65 days, and at the end of each chapter ask yourself, "Could an uneducated, illiterate farmboy write a book such as this?" I can promise that if you do, you'll come to love it in the same way I do! Anyways, have a blessed week y'all, and remember that Jesus loves y'all and so do I!!
Elder Richardson
Scripture of the Week: Mormon 7:8-9
8 Therefore repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus, and lay hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you, not only in this record (the Book of Mormon) but also in the record which shall come unto the Gentiles from the Jews (the Bible), which record shall come from the Gentiles unto you.9 For behold, this (the Book of Mormon) is written for the intent that ye may believe that (the Bible); and if ye believe that (the Bible) ye will believe this (the Book of Mormon) also; and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them.
