Tifton Transfer 14 Week 4
Whaaatsss gooood y'alllll!? Guess who's ABSOLUTELY drawing a blank for this email. Yours truly. No idea what to write, no idea what went on this week, let's dive in shall we?? Sit back, relax, and I'll try to pull out a show.
So let's talk about how our friends are doing shall we? Of course. Our girl Louise is doing so good, she's been struggling to stick to a date and committ to baptism. But we went over to her house on Tuesday, and she had received some major revelation and decided that she was going to be baptized on March 19th, her birthday. And nothing was going to sway her. So she's trucking along. She's listened to the entire Book of Mormon, and now she's obsessed with listening to "Russell" (President Nelson). She's awesome. Please pray that she'll have the strength to overcome her demons!!
We also met with James, he's a guy that we've been working with for a little bit. Super nice old dude, such a humble seeker of truth. We had a lesson this week with him where we went over to teach the Plan of Salvation. Before we started, we set some expectations on what we expected of him, and he basically told us that he's making it an experiment. If he can feel the spirit, and if things click, then he'll join. Kaching. So we whipped out our trusty Plan of Salvation lesson, discussed it with him, and he was in love. He told us that he's never had anything click more or feel more familiar than that lesson. So we invited him to pray about being baptized, and we'll be getting back to him soon.
Unfortunately, most everyone else that we're meeting with didn't really make much progress this week. They're all stuck on the committment to read the Book of Mormon. So a lot of this week was going around and throwing down on why we need to read our scriptures. And it made me reflect on my own personal studies (which now looking back, I've been slacking). Not that I haven't been reading my scriptures, I've been doing plenty of that. I just hadn't been studying them. There's a difference. I promise. I've been going through the stories, reflecting on the basic principles, but no real internalization or personal application. No real work was taking place, I had kind of plateued. And this week made me realize that. So the last few days, I've been on the study grind. I don't think I've poured over the scriptures harder, written more notes, put more tabs in a book than I ever have in my life. And the impact it's had on me? I feel like a different missionary. There is a real, tangible power that enters into one's life when they make a pursuit of knowledge from the scriptures an all-or-nothing approach. When God sees that we're trying to seek out Him and His words, he opens the windows of heaven to us.
One scripture that I've come to love is Alma 12:9-10 which says,
9 And now Alma began to expound these things unto him, saying: It is given unto many to know the mysteries of God; nevertheless they are laid under a strict command that they shall not impart only according to the portion of his word which he doth grant unto the children of men, according to the heed and diligence which they give unto him. 10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full.
That's the process y'all. That's how it works. So if you feel like you've plateued in your spiritual journey, if you don't feel like you're as close as you want to be, start there. Open up a fresh copy of the Book of Mormon, and begin the grind. *Especially if you've never read it before. It'll change you*. Turn your scripture reading into scripture studying. Be more intentional in the little things and I can promise that it will make a difference in your life.
So that's been our focus this week. Not a whole ton of exciting stuff yet, but good things are coming. The rest of the week was basically doing that, driving hours across Georgia going to District Councils, tradeoffs with Elder Taunima, the tongan terror, planning a BOMB training for Zone Conference, that's about it. Oh and a little bit of fishing today for pday. We caught a bass and quite a few brim/bream/however it's spelled, and Elder Hansen wanted to take them home to chef it up with them. So now our entire house smells like fish. It's great.
But honestly that's about it. Keep trucking along, reading those scriptures, coming closer to God, and hopefully having an absolutely amazing week. Remember that Jesus loves y'all and so do I!

Scripture of the Week-- Alma 37:44
44 For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land.

They load them in some bright green vans, and drive around Tifton blasting kids gospel music. We'll sit in the back. Little kids run out, and we hand out bags to them. So wholesome. So fun.
