Gainesville Transfer 13 Week 4
Holy cow. What's up. How are y'all doing? Still going strong on those 2022 New Years Resolutions?? Good. Well we got a lot to talk about this week. Action, excitement, sadness, the whole 9 yards. So without further ado...
So first off let's start out how I usually do, teaching people. Not a whole lot to report on here. The Ricks still had covid so no meeting with them, and Justin's basically dropped us. We keep stopping by and calling but no answer. So así es, we move on to those others who the Lord has prepared. We did have a few lessons with Roger, and they've all gone good. He's finally getting more comfortable with "mormons" (members of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints), and is fine if we bring a member with us to teach. So we'll be bringing a member along and meeting at the church to get some real power and progression going on. So that's been good. We're also doing more work on campus, and we have a few potentials in the works. So keep us and those who the Lord are preparing in your prayers!!
We also had MLC this week which was super hype as always. Unfortunately some of my super close mission buddies came dowm with the good ole rona, so they had to zoom in. But this last transfer like all the ZL spots got filled by missionaries who I'm pretty close with so it's been a party. But we had some good discussions about member work, involving the BOM more in the work, how to help missionaries develop more urgency, lots of good stuff.
We also had some cool miracles this week as we've been working more with the members. We've made it a zone goal to get into every members home to extend an invitation for each member of the family to write their testimony in, and hand out a copy of the Book of Mormon. We were figuring out who we should stop by, and a couple came to my mind. I looked at their dot on area book, and realized that they were pretty close. I turned to Elder Bloom to recommend them, and turns out he was already reviewing their Area Book profile. We took that as confirmation from God, and went over. Right when we were about to knock on the door, I was just filled with a feeling of nervousness. But we knocked anyways. We got let in, and there was just a spirit of tension present. I didn't think much about it, we had a good visit, and I forgot all about what had just happened. But then when we were going to leave, the husband made a comment during the closing prayer, thanking God for sending us at the exact moment that they needed. No further explanation than that. That got me putting together the pieces. Obviously, God wanted us to be there. That family was going through something, and He wanted us to stop by and help out. Satan, equally did not want us to go there. He was working his hardest. But of course, God prevails. I just thought this was so cool. It wasn't anything big, we didn't see anything grand come from this, but we did get to make an impact on a young family struggling with the pressures of life. And I know y'all can do that as well! God is just waiting, hoping to use us as tools in His hands. And if we show the faith, if we put our heart up on the altar and ask God, "What can I do?", he'll answer! So if I may, I want to invite y'all to get on your knees, and say a humble prayer to God, asking Him who you can help. Ponder that for a little bit, grab a trusty copy of the Book of Mormon, and then go and let God guide you! That's all He needs, are humble hearts and willing hands. He'll take care of the rest.
Now to get to the sad part. At the beginning of this week, one of the senior office missionaries, Elder Duncan, tested positive for Covid and was hospitalized. We were told to keep him in our prayers. Then not three days later, President sent out another email, letting us know that Elder Duncan had suffered a massive stroke and heart attack, and things were looking grim. We decided to join our faith as a mission, and do a fast for Elder Duncan. Now let me tell you, this was the hardest fast I've possibly ever done. I don't know why. But it made me think, that maybe God was just really testing us, and that meant Elder Duncan would get better. But two days later, we got another email letting us know that our dear Elder Duncan had passed away. Honestly a little heartbreaking. And it made me wonder a little, why would things work out like that? Why wouldn't God protect His missionaries? But today, President sent out another letter talking about the situation. And he said something, and quoted President Nelson, that really stuck out to me. The quote was, "Moreover, we can’t fully appreciate joyful reunions later without tearful separations now. The only way to take sorrow out of death is to take love out of life.” What a thing to rejoice about! Death is hard, separation is sad. But that's all that death really is, is a short separation! The wall of death separates us from our loved ones, but Christ tore down that wall. That impenetrable wall no longer stands. And because of that, we have so much hope!! So hug your loved ones today. And once they're gone, keep that abiding hope in Christ. He's the one that has made, and will make it all work out!
Anyways, sorry for the long email today. I've had lots of thoughts going on this last week, and just wanted to share some of them. That's about all I got, but hopefully y'all have an amazing week. Remember that Jesus loves y'all so much, and so do I!
Elder Richardson
Scripture of the Week: Quote from President Hinkley--
"Whenever the cold hand of death strikes, there shines through the gloom and the darkness of that hour the triumphant figure of the Lord Jesus Christ, He, the Son of God, who by his matchless and eternal power overcame death.”
