What. Is. Up. Y'all. How are each and every one of y'all doing? Hopefully absolutely magnificent on this fine monday morning. Things are just so good here as well, and I'm hyped to be able to share with y'all all the miracles and the good times we had this week. God is just so good y'all! But without further ado, shall we dive right in? Lets.
So by way of teaching, we had a few really good lessons this week. One was with a new guy we found named Joseph. Joseph is a super cool guy, not entirely mentally there so when we teach him his brother in law comes to help make sure he's understanding what we're sharing with him. We had an appointment with him on tuesday, and we went over and met him, his wife, and his brother in law. We did the typical how to begin teaching and got to know them, and the brother in law and wife just seemed SO elect. They were saying all the right things, talking about their beliefs and they aligned with exactly what we believe. So to state simply, we were excited. But turns out both of them are members already and were just pulling our legs pretending to be investigators. Rip. It was great. But anyways had a nice long talk with all of them, and Joseph has a super strong desire to be baptized, we just have to get him there and make sure he understands and is accountable to everything we teach. So he's super cool. Then our typical lessons with Will and Yeison. Both went super good, both super spirit filled. We taught Will the commandments, and he talked about how the commandments are hard to live because of the type of people that surround him. He also mentioned that he wanted to find a girl who lived these same standards who would make it easy to live the gospel. And what a deal we had for him being the YSA missionaries and all. So keep a fine-tuned ear for some wedding bells coming up, matchmade by yours truly. And Yeison is just an absolute beast. It's been hard to see progression from him because he's just so logical and doesn't really listen to the spiritual side, but this last lesson we were super bold about that and got him thinking a lot about the spiritual feelings he's having. He'll be reading the BOM consistently and praying consistently now so good things coming. But that's probably about it by way of teaching. We're still just figuring things out by way of the people we have in area book, trying to see who we can work with and who needs a little more time to progress spiritually before they're ready.
Honestly there were a lot of other things that happened this week, but I don't want to make y'all read a lot so we'll go the good ole bullet point way of writing an email.
• Had the chalkboard experiment, basically what we do is we set up two massive chalkboards with questions on them, then as people walk by they write on the board and we talk to them about life, institute activities, life, all that fun stuff. It's fun, a little sketchy, but crazy successful. Good stuff.
• We've finally realized the power of bikes on campus, so you already know we've been utilizing them. Lemme tell you. Bikes are far superior to cars. They allow you to get fit and strong, they get you around quick, and you get to talk to people easier as you're riding. Plus they're easier to carry around than a car, and can fit in tight spaces. What more do you need. I'm definitely converted. So we've been riding all over lately, allowing our minivan, the momma rocket, to get a little bit of rest. So experiment upon my word, and utilize the bikes.
•We played pickleball with a bunch of ward families, including our mission president's son who's in this ward. Elder Callaway is a straight legend on the courts so we showed up well. Kings of the court 4 games and counting.
• There's a gator outside of our apartment in a pond. We were taking the bikes out once and saw that he was on the shore, so we took over some salmon patties that we had made that to be honest were pretty nasty to feed to that boy. We looked at him and threw him a patty, no reaction at all. Then as we were walking away he jumped into the water and started following us. A guy was going on a walk around the pond whilr we were out there, and the gator caught his eye as well, so we were all standing there watching the gator, and we were able to get this guys info and teach him about the church, he was pretty interested haha. The lord works in mysterious ways I guess. And the gator didn't end up attacking us haha, he just wanted some more salmon patties.
•Andria came down last monday to Gainesville because she had a doctors appointment. Her doctors office was right down the street from where we live, so we were able to go say hi to her and talk for a little bit. Definitely a tender mercy.
That's probably about it for the noteworthy things that have been going on. But things are going good. The work is moving along and I'm grateful for how much God is blessing us. Sometimes it's hard to see those blessings because they may not be as grand or as noticable as others blessings may be. But something I've noticed on the mission is for those who just work as hard as they can, and then trust God and look for His hand, those blessings come. In all different shapes and sizes, and maybe we want the extra large size blessing but we're only getting the kiddie size blessing, but they come. Because why wouldn't a loving heavenly father do that for each and every one of us. I love each and every one of y'all, just remember that Jesus loves you, and so do I. Have a great week!
Elder Richardson
Scripture of the Week: Doctrine and Covenants 122:7-9
7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good.
8 The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he?
9 Therefore, hold on thy way, and the priesthood shall remain with thee; for their bounds are set, they cannot pass. Thy days are known, and thy years shall not be numbered less; therefore, fear not what man can do, for God shall be with you forever and ever.
