Gainesville Transfer 10 Week 2

Heyyyyy y'all!! What is going on with each and every one of you this fine day? Has this just been the best week of your year thus far? Good. I'm so glad. Same here. It's a beautiful day, sun is shining, birds are chirping, the gators down here are all sunbathing and having a grand old time, and it's time to dive right into the amazing week that was just wrought in the Gainesville area.
So to start out, this week was just an absolute blur. It flew by. But good things happened for sure. As y'all know, we whitewashed into this area, so we've been absolutely jam-packed visiting members and nonmembers alike, just trying to become familiar with everything. So that's what a lot of this week was. A lot of finding, a decent amount of teaching, and lots of good times at the YSA. We don't really have like a set day down here, each day is pretty drastically different. One day could be chock-full of member visits and teaching lessons, and the next could be full of YSA activities, ministering to some missionaries, and meetings. So really just depends. But there definitely was some cool things that happened this week. We have a decently large teaching pool, lots of people who are willing to let God prevail in their lives. We have Will who's an absolute beast, he moved from Jax Beach for school and basically calls himself a member already. We just need to finish teaching him, get him committed to baptism, and badaboom badabang. We also have a guy we're teaching who's name is Yeison (pronounced Jason, don't ask why). He's an absolute einstein, and it's so fun to teach him because he asks a ton of super deep, thought-provoking questions. We're trying to get him to recognize the spirit more than just depending on logic, but it's all going good. Yeison is a beast. Then we have another guy named Chandra. He's a Hare Krishna, a religion that's pretty big on campus, it's like hindu-based or something. But he's super cool, has the same standards as our church and started out just curious about our beliefs. But we'll get him wanting more. There's a good amount more people who are in our teaching pool, but those are the main ones who are progressing a lot.
So this week was super full, but honestly as I look back I can't remember a lot of stuff that went on. Let's just ramble on and try to remember shall we? Good. Well we had some bomb lessons with Will, Yeison and Chandra, where we were able to extend some soft baptismal invitations to them. They were well received, and now they're just reading and praying about whether we're the one true church or not. So keep them in your prayers. We also had a big meeting out in Jacksonville with a bunch of other missionaries across the mission this friday which was super sweet. Super revelatory. Then right after I went on a tradeoff in Jacksonville with my good pal Elder Kimball. We've served around each other a lot so it was such a fun tradeoff. Had some bomb lessons, went to an art night where Sis Lyons, a friend from home who's serving in this mission showed up, some office work to get done, and even unloaded a massive uhaul in 30 minutes tops. I know. Be impressed. So all that was pretty fun. I also got a free guitar from an investigator back in Quincy, so I've been learning a few songs here and there. I'm no Jimi Hendrix by any means, but hopefully some day haha. But honestly that's basically it. The YSA and 3rd ward are both popping with missionary work and the spirit of the lord right now so we're definitely doing pretty good. Teaching in the YSA is definitely a little strange, because my whole mission I don't think I've taught anybody who's 1. My age, or 2. Pretty sharp mentally so the understanding and conversation level definitely is a lot higher and can be a whole lot more fun/difficult. So I'm loving it.
But yeah like I said, honestly that's about it. Things are going good, my comp is good, the work is good, the gospel is good, our message is good, and Jesus is so so good. He also loves each and every one of you guys a lot. Did you know that? Good. And don't forget it. But have a blessed week, and remember that you're loved!
Elder Richardson
Scripture of the Week: Helaman 6:22-23
22 And also they had peace in the seventy and eighth year, save it were a few contentions concerning the points of doctrine which had been laid down by the prophets.23 And in the seventy and ninth year there began to be much strife. But it came to pass that Nephi and Lehi, and many of their brethren who knew concerning the true points of doctrine, having many revelations daily, therefore they did preach unto the people, insomuch that they did put an end to their strife in that same year.
I think this scripture is a good reflection on our day today. The Nephites were in a time of much peace and prosperity for a long time. Life was good. But, the downfall of that peace and prosperity came when the people started relying on their own understanding, and discrediting the prophets on certain points of doctrine. Simply, they allowed pride to enter into their hearts. I think it's both comforting and a little alarming, that the only people who survived spiritually were those ones who had a testimony of the prophets no matter what, and also knew how to receive personal revelation. I think President Nelson's words do ring true, that we will not survive spiritually if we don't know how to receive personal revelation. We can't rely on our own knowledge, or the knowledge of what we read online. Instant answers, instant gratification. That's Satan's way. We simply need to ask God, and have faith on those things and those people that we know to be true.
