Hello everyone!! I have definitely become one of those missionaries who puts emailing off until the last possible moment. All I can say is you'll all be in my position someday!! Or maybe you'll be better haha.
Merry Christmas everyone!! I hope you-all have had a great time!! Christmas is a little bit weird as a missionary, because you don't get to celebrate it at all in the ways you used to back home. However, Elder Harris and I have been overwhelmed by the amount of member support we've felt over the past week!! It has been crazy! We have so much JUNK FOOD!!
Also this week we haven't had many appointments, but we have had a lot more people answer their doors!! On Saturday, Elder Harris got the prompting to knock on this lady's door and she talked with us for like 15 minutes and said we could come back!! Elder Harris definitely keeps me on my toes when it comes to following the spirit. A few weeks ago, we were visiting some potentials, and he walks past me and says "follow me". We walk up to this nearby apartment complex and knock on a door in the middle of the building. I'm pretty confused at this point so I whisper "do you know this lady?". Elder Harris simply replies "No." and knocks a second time. "Then who is she?" "I don't know, I just felt like we should knock it." I admire his willingness to follow the spirit no matter what it tells us to do.
Speaking of the spirit, I have been thinking a lot lately about the difference I feel when I have put in the effort to say my morning prayers and to stay awake and do my best to study hard during my personal study time. The more I have thought about it, the more I have been impressed by the huge difference in how confident I feel talking to people, as well as my outlook during the day, and my ability to recognize and follow the spirit. I have a testimony that when we take the time and energy to study the scriptures and not just read them, we will have a much greater portion of the Lord's spirit with us.
Also this week we had an awesome presentation about Christmas and gaining and sharing our testimonies, that went super well! The spirit was very strong during the presentation, and the youth were very responsive. We shared this awesome Christmas commercial that shows an incredible story of enemies in the WW1 trenches united in their celebration of Christmas. Then we talked about Alma 32 and challenged the youth to strengthen/share their testimonies!
I am very grateful that I am a missionary!! It is one of the most rewarding things I have done in my life.
Thanks for reading and have a great Christmas!!Elder Paul
