Blast from the Past
It has been really fun being back in Arlington! Seeing people and
places that I knew in the past. Elder Virgin and I have already had
awesome memories and have been teaching a lot which is great! It has
been a long time since I have been in an area that has been this
active teaching wise. As far as investigators go, we have a lot that
might be getting baptized soon it's just going to take some commitment
on their part and some faithfulness and obedience on ours.
I have seen so many people from the first Ward already. The bishop,
stake President, Cory Carroll who is in my ward now. He moved to sixth
Ward. and a bunch of other members. It's pretty awesome! We went to
the temple on Saturday for a recent convert to do baptisms and in the
five minutes that I was in the lobby, I saw bishop Heidenriech from
the Belton Ward and a member from the 1st Ward. All I needed was one
from Flower Mound 3rd and I would be set! haha.
We have a man that is our closest that we have to progressing and he
is doing really well. His name is Sam. He has some family issues but
hopefully we will end up teaching the whole family instead of just
him. He used to live in Africa and he is super awesome! Hopefully we
will also have a baptismal date for him in the next few weeks!
Bob is in a part-member family. He is actually more interseted than
his wife! He has some pretty interesting ideas about religion but he
will probably be able to get past his ideas. He flies planes and used
to sail yachts around the world. he shipwrecked near the philipines so
that is where he lived for some years haha. he is a pretty aweosme
guy.
Elder Virgin and I were talking the other day about how we can make
our contacting more effective and we realized that making our lessons
sweet an short are how we do it. We figured, let's just go back to
Preach My Gospel on it. We went to the end of the lessons where they
have a suggested lesson outline and they have a short little one that
we can use when we contact. We have been working on that to teach
short, sweet, simple doctrine. Then get a return appointment and teach
to needs.
What does it mean to you to have faith? Having Faith can mean a lot of
different things can it not?
So what does the dictionary define "faith" as?
Faith: "1. Complete trust or confidence in something or someone. 2. A
strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on
spiritual apprehension rather than proof." The funny thing is that the
Book of Mormon defines faith as "Things which are hoped for and not
seen." (Ether 12:6) That is basically the same thing that the
dictionary defined "faith" as. I had a friend tell me that he didn't
feel that he had very much faith and I have been in the same boat and
i am fairly certain that the majority of us have been in it at some
point in time or another. So, if you're not in it right now, how did
you get out of it? What either helped you realize that you have more
faith than you knew, or helped your faith grow?
I think ultimately it comes down to wether or not we are willing to
take Alma on his word and "experiment upon [his] words" (Alma 32:27).
We also know that "faith without works is dead" (James 2:20). The more
we exercise our faith muscles, the greater desire we will have to do
what we need to do to have our will and our lives in line with God's.
I.e repentance. Speaking of that, faith in God unto salvation needs
three things:
1. An idea that he actually exists.
2. A correct understanding of his attributes, characters and perfections.
3. An actual knowledge that the course one is pursuing in life is in
line with God's will.
How do we learn these things?? We do the basics. We pray sincerely,
search the scriptures and learn of Christ and his gospel and we make
our sabbath days meaningful. That is how it happens. If you don't feel
like your faith is strong enough, then be diligent, keep trying and
pressing forward! Your faith will grow!
That is about all that I have for you today!
Keep the Faith and Hurrah for Israel!
Love, your missionary son and brother, Elder Jefferies
