Guess Who Was Driving at 1:30am
I have been so tired it is not even funny! I have no idea why but both
of us are super tired and we have probably taken more naps this past
week than I have the rest of my mission put together. I. Was. Tired.
Our exchange with Arlington 5th might have been a reason why we were
both so tired. So I'll tell you the first part of the exchange first.
It went really well! I was here with Elder Burton And we taught the
Cox family again. This time, we set expectations with Brother Cox. We
told him what we and God would like for him which is to be sealed to
his wife and children for time and all eternity. He said that he would
like to work towards that as well. So now, we are working towards
baptism with him!! :) Then we stopped by Gabrielle and talked to her
for a few minutes. We had a stellar night that night as we went out
and taught a few investigators. After nightly planning at 9:30 (this
is when it gets fun), Elder Burton and I get a call from Arlington 5th
asking us if we could go pick them up. We asked why and they said that
Elder Hutchison needed to go see the doctor for his leg... What!? So
we get there at about 10pm and we go to where the mission nurse told
us to go but it was a wrong address. So now, we go to the only other
24/7 emergency clinic that we knew of all the way in north Arlington.
We get there about 10:30ish and we wait about a half hour before the
front desk lady says that the Comay would be about $199 - $500... Our
co pays with our missionary medical is only supposed to be $10... We
said we would be leaving. So, we left but I had a thought about a
different place we could go. We went there, co pay was $10 so we
stayed. And stayed. And stayed. 11:30, 12:00, 12:30 then finally we
get out of there at 12:45 IN THE MORNING!!!! We didn't get home and in
bed until 2am!!!!!!! We were dead haha. That led to several 2 hour
naps in the following couple of days haha. We were wiped. It was
really fun!
Obedience is the first law of basically everything in the gospel. The
blessing that come from keeping the commandments all come because you
exercise your agency or your ability to choose for yourself. The
gospel works in such a way that everything builds upon Escher. The
more you keep the commandments, the more love for you have for God and
men, the more you remember Christ and he more you have the Holy Ghost
to be with you and much, much more. All of those things will help you
be happy and deepen your desire to keep God's commandments out of love
for him not because of mere obligation or because of the blessings.
So, if that is so wonderful and brings all of those blessings, how do
we do it? We simply choose to keep the commandments. Whoa whoa whoa...
Elder Jefferies, can it really be that simple? Yes it can be. There
are stumbling blocks that get in our way, temptations that throw us
off and knock us down, but we just need to choose to get back up. But
it comes down to choosing. Exercising our agency. There is a quote by
President Spencer W. Kimball that reads:
"I find that when I get casual in my relationships with divinity and
when it seems that no divine ear is listening and no divine voice is
speaking, that I am far, far away. If I immerse myself in the
scriptures the distance narrows and the spirituality returns. I find
myself loving more intensely those whom I must love with all my heart
and mind and strength, and loving them more, I find it easier to abide
their counsel."
All in all, I know that if we keep choosing to keep the commandments,
our lives will be immeasurably blessed and it will become easier as we
continue to work at it and deepen our desires to follow God.
Love, Elder Jefferies
