I Think I Will Need to Replace More Than My Brake Pads...
Howdy y'all!
This week has been a really fun one! With the anxiousness of transfers and all the long days it has been a blast. I must say that Belton was an experience to say the least. There are a lot of good people and restaurants there! ;P Up here in Flower Mound there are even more great people (the population is a lot denser) and a lot more great restaurants!
Elder Griffin is great! Turns out he went to Weber High and ran cross country and track! We also ran the same times kinda so we have probably ran right next to each other without really knowing it! That is pretty cool I think. He graduated a year younger than me so he is actually the first companion that I have had that is younger than me. It is interesting. We get a long really well and we are both really open to suggestion when it comes to changing and becoming better people which is a really great thing because we all need to change.
Aside from that, we had a really eventful Saturday as i am sure you already know one of the things that happened, but here were more!
First thing: we got a list of people to try to see in the morning so we went out there on the other side of our area which is about 3 1/2 maybe 4 miles away. On the way we meet a guy named Kirk. Kirk is a really cool guy. We talked to him for a few minutes and when we started to get into our message he said that he didn't like how "secretive" we were (mostly referring to temples) and how we only let members of our church know things and how we don't invite others in and such. We explained to him that just as in the Old Testament times you need to be counted worthy before God to do certain things and go certain places. There are also things that aren't secret but rather they are so sacred that w don't speak of them so as to keep the sacredness of what goes on inside. We gave him a copy of the Book of Mormon and testified etc. So that was one experience!
Secondly, within a few minutes we knocked on a persons door who we were trying to go see. Her name is Susan. Susan came out with her friend Emily. We taught them a lot of different things. They love Mormons and they are now new investigators. They will give an interesting teaching experience for reasons that I will not mention.
Next. I wreck my bike kinda. Don't worry, I am not hurt, I didn't even fall off my bike. So we stopped at a stoplight getting ready to cross and I had just told Elder Griffin that I ought to get new brake pads because they were starting to screech really bad. Well on the other side of the street I saw a little mound of dirt that you could jump off of. Well, I liked to take jumps, it had been a while since I jumped. Plus, I could show off to the people stopped at the light. So true to my pride, I decided I would take the jump. Well my pride go the best of me. I landed the jump perfectly fine, but I needed to turn sharply to avoid a fence. I managed to almost turn all the way but unfortunately I didn't quite make the turn. My handlebar hit the fence jerking my front wheel into the fence and bent the rim (see attached photo). My shirt is stained, my pants are fine and a member of the Ward took care of my wheel so all is well! I just now have a story to tell haha.
Later that day Elder Griffin almost got hit twice, I almost got hit and I hit a bush. It was quite the exhausting day on our bikes haha!
I do love my bike though and I love being in a bike area, it is so much better than a car. At least right now it is.
I have been thinking a lot lately about a scripture I read. Helaman 3:35:
"Nevertheless they did fast and pray oft, and did wax stronger and stronger in their humility, and firmer and firmer in the faith of Christ, unto the filling their souls with joy and consolation, yea, even to the purifying and the sanctification of their hearts, which sanctification cometh because of their yielding their hearts unto God."
I think there are so many wonderful aspects of the gospel in this single verse. This explains what we are supposed to do. We need to pray and obey the commandments. We need to know and understand the commandments so we read the scriptures. All the while when we pray, we express our humility and our dependence on Heavenly Father. When we fast we are also putting off the natural man and paying more attention to spiritual things, making it easier for us to receive revelation and inspiration from the Holy Ghost. I really like the phrase that says "unto the filling of their souls with joy and consolation." notice how joy and comfort essentially come before sanctification and purification. To me this is just so wonderful because it illustrates the joy. Of living the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I love this. It truly fills me with joy and consolation. I love to feel the Savior. We should be going through the repentance process all the time, I strive to at least, and this brings us the joy that the gospel promises. I can promise it! I have seen it, I have felt it and I love it! You will love it too when you do it!
