Be Thankful!
Dearest Loved Ones!
So this Wednesday is transfers and I will be staying with Elder Sikaleti here in Belton.
The weather down here is getting cold for me! We haven't had much success with teaching people or finding new investigators either but I hope that with a renewed vision and if Elder Sikaleti and I work together we can and will improve this area.
There were some really cool experiences this week!
We had a mission conference with Elder Falabella of the 70. His native language is spanish but he speaks english pretty well! He brushed on a lot of topics. We were asked to specifically read Alma 17 - 22 and 27. It is the story about the sons of Mosiah. There are a lot of things to be learned about missionary work in there. Hailey and Tyler as you prepare for your missions read these chapters and see what you can do to become like these amazing missionaries. I am not perfect, far from it, but I have been trying to work hard on things. Elder Falabella spoke about a gospel GPS. First lets take a look at what a normal GPS does, it guides you adn helps you go where you want to go. So if we liken the gospel GPS it will have some of these qualities:
- God's GPS: the purpose so you won't get lost in this life.
Goal ~ Immortality and eternal life of man.
Plan ~ The Plan of Salvation or the Plan of Happiness Everyone that follows the plan will be happy. 2 Nephi 2:25
Self commitment ~ How can you tell they are truly committed to their goal? How can we become more committed to their goal and make their goal our goal as well?
- Moses 1:39 establishes God's goal and is only 20 words long. That is simple. Make sure that goals are simple and can be understood but are powerful.
We need to have a knowledge of our eternal destiny. Heavenly Father has something glorious in mind for each and every one of us I know it! I encourage you to go over this cool analogy and see what other things can relate to it.
A little idiom, or what ever you might call this, for Texas is if you ask someone how they are doing, most of the time they will answer by saying "blessed." No explanation, nothing more just "Blessed." As I reflect on it I realize that we are all indeed blessed. I had a particularly hard day on Saturday. It was cold, we didn't have any set plans and we didn't have a dinner that day. I will be honest with you, I broke down to tears multiple times that day. As I tried to think about how I could improve my perspective (I knew that it was most likely my perspective that was making me down.) The words of a hymn came to mind "Count your many blessings, name them one by one." I decided that I would do that. I am blessed as the people would say. I am blessed with so many comforts that many in the world do not have. I am sorry that I do not have much else to say today but I will end with a scripture and a promise.
D&C 78:19 "And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more."
So be thankful! Know that everything that we go through in this life is for our good! Yes life can be hard but if it weren't hard we wouldn't grow. I would like to invite you to reflect upon and name your blessings. Name them one by one. When you do and strive to give thanks, you will be blessed in many ways. It might be with a better perspective as I was or with true comfort. No matter what you will always be looked after.
