This week has been a blast! So many things have happened its hard to put it into words but I will try my best!
First off, I have grown so much since the MTC. I have learned how to better teach, contact, and plan. I was having issues earlier in the week, I was "harrowed up in remembrance" of my sins. I told E. Price that and he said that most missionaries feel that way because satan doesn't want us here.
I asked President Ames what I can do about it because we had interviews with him on Tuesday and he gave me a few reading/study assignments. I did those, fasted and paid particular attention to how i was feeling all the time and it was powerful. I fasted for strength, forgivness, spiritual sensitivity as well as for some of our investigators. The next few days were a powerful testimony that what I am doing is good and is where I am supposed to be.
Faye, our eternagator, set a baptismal date!!! July 16 and we couldn't be more excited for her! She was so so close and just needed that commitment and confidence that she was ready and this was right. that was a powerful witness.
We also street contacted a ton this week. In our limited time we taught 7 street lessons and placed 5 copies of the Book of Mormon. We got a girl to commit to baptism on the street but that date isn't firm. If she contacts us again or shows up to church we can pretty well say that it's firm which will be awesome! Hopefully we will teach her family too otherwise she will be referred to the YSA elders. But, either way I'm excited!
Saturday we were knocking doors in the northern part of our area and we found Ward. Now, after about 15 minutes of us teaching, asking questions and him giving the correct answers and saying that it all makes sense, we were about to tell him about the BoM. We asked if he had ever heard of it before and he said, "Yeah, in fact I have one sitting on my shelf." He then explained that he never looked into it much. After talking to him for a couple minutes he told us that he is a baptist pastor... In my head I was thinking, as I have every time we have ran into a pastor or preacher, "Oh boy. Here it comes." But, he just smiled, said he understood, he'd text us or call us if he ever had any questions and said he'd read the suggested verses!! That definitely was a tender mercy. I have had a lot of those.
The biggest spiritual event that happened this week would need to be either my first exchange, or the 3 or 4 days after my fast. I also was reading a talk by Elder Holland this morning entitled "Missionary Work and the Atonement." In that address he said that we should center everything around the Atonement of Christ. Read verses and study the Atonement in the New Testament and the Book of Mormon. I have decided that I will take my little copy and highlight everything I can find pertaining to the Atonement.
I Love this gospel. this gospel has brought more joy to my soul than anything else. I have been stretched and have experienced more growth in the past 65 days since going through the temple than I could have imagined. This Is the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The works that have stemmed from that 14 year old farm boy in upstate New York can only be and are from God.
