Sketchy Santa and Christmas Miracles
Feliz Navidad!
I hope everyone is having a great Christmas today! In La Dalia Christmas was a bit crazy with people celebrating really late into the night but it definetly was a fun experience.
One of the coolest parts about this week was our Branch Christmas party that we put together Saturday night! We spent the entire week preparing to make the meeting great. We organized/planned out the agenda, thifted a homeade santa suit haha, prepared a few activities. and invited all of the people we knew in La Dalia. We also got some help from some of the Relief Society members to cook some food, make a santa beard, and decorate the church.
As Saturday night came around, the room was packed with people! We had so many investigators and inactive members who had came. The only problem was that we were missing all of the members haha. Our MC of the meeting didn't show up and we only had enough food and plates to feed 50 of the 120 people in the church. We had ran out of chairs and people were standing, inside and outside of the church, in side rooms, etc. It seemed like it was going to be a disaster. The activities didn't go too great without the members to help out and the branch president had taken the meeting into his own hands and tried to end the meeting an hour and a half early!
My comp and I knew that if we were going to save this activity, it would only be by the help of God. We quickly took everything we had (food, activities, gifts, etc) into a side room at the church and prayed that it would all be enough and that this activity would be great. Then, we put our faith into action and went to work. As the relief society prepared the food, we continued on with the agenda. We had a wedding for two of the members in our branch, I gave a quick talk on the importance of Christ in Christmas, Elder Méndez went up and did a great stand up comedy routine, the primary did a dance, and we had a visit from Santa! Even though the beard had fallen apart, everyone loved it and the kids enjoyed recieving candy and toys. Following that, we passed out all of the food and it was a miracle! We had EXACTLY enough rice, bread, and juice to feed everyone there. Everyone who came had something to eat, and everyone went home happy that they came. This experience was a testament to me and all of the people who came that God really does answer prayers. We had nowhere close to enough food to feed everyone, but somehow as Sister Aguilar was scooping out more and more rice from the only bucket we had it didn't run out until everyone had food.
I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas! Take the time to enjoy this day with your family and remember the importance Jesus Christ in our lives.
