Elder Soto

Week 13

¡Buenas Días!
This week was a bit crazy, we had transfers and Divisions with some of the other missionaries in the Zone. Elder Soto got transfered out of La Dalia and so I have a new companion, Elder Méndez, who is from Mexico as well. It was definitely really tough to say goodbye to Elder Soto, but I am looking forward to learning more from my new companion.
We had one of the funniest experiences last Sunday. It was 8:25 and Elder Soto and I had just finished dinner with the Pensionista. We were walking back when we realized that we totally forgot thatwere supposed to be back at the house 10 minutes ago because we had a zoom meeting with all of the zone at 8:30! Freaking out a bit, we sprinted across La Dalia (which I'm sure was definitely a sight to see) and made it back to the house, jumped on the zoom link, and made it to the meeting 5 minutes late. We rushed in to house so fast that we totally forgot to shut the door until 30 minutes after the meeting started haha.
While that was funny enough, I didn't know the best part until the next day. Monday morning we went to go buy water at the corner store and we were talking with Antonio, the store keeper, and he told us that he had seen us running the night before when we passed by his pulpuria. He thought that we were being chased or that someone was trying to rob us, so he quickly grabbed his pistol and to try to save the "poor mormon missionaries." When he looked towards our house and he saw the door was open and thought that the "gangsters" had gotten us and that it was all over, so he was super relieved to see that we were still alive Monday morning and that there wasn't any issues haha. Its nice to know that we have made some good friends here in La Dalia and that we will always be protected by God and by Hermano Antonio haha.

Spiritual Thought
One of my favorite stories about Jesus Christ in the Bible is found in Mathew 14 when Peter tries to follow the example of Jesus Christ to "walk on the water."
"28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.
31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"
At times in life we are exactly like Peter. We are trying to follow our Savior, Jesus Christ, when we see the "boisterous wind" (the challenges, obstacles, etc) and we begin to lose faith. However, the important part is that when we begin to sink spiritually, the Lord is always by our side. When we cry out for help, he will immediately stretch forth his hand to save us. There is no reason to doubt because he will always be there, no matter the circumstances.
