Nicaragua Week 9

Buenas Días!
This week has been pretty great! We have been teaching a lot of positive people and helping prepare them for baptism. We recieved some good advice from our mission president that we need to work more with the members in the ward to find and teach more people. It's been so cool to see how the members make one of the biggest impacts on the work here.
On Thursday we had an interesting experience while we were contacting in the morning. We were talking to an old man in front of his house when all of the sudden we saw a lady running down the hill yelling for us. We quickly said goodbye to the man we were talking to and walked over to meet her. She quickly handed us her phone and told us her son needed to talk to us, and then she walked away. Her son, Jasmir, was on the phone and began to tell us how he had just moved to the United States and learned about our church. He said that he knew the power of the Book of Mormon and our message and that we needed to share it with his parents here in La Dalia. After ending the call and returning the phone back, we agreed to come back Sunday night to share more. Yesterday we came back to the house and shared the message of the restoration and thr plan God had for this family. We shared with them the Book of Mormon and how amazing it is that we can recieve revelation from God through its words. It was an amazing experience and I am so excited to return and teach more to Gladys (the mom) and Isabel (the dad). I'm so glad that we were able to be in the right place and at the right time and that Jasmir (the son) knew the power the Book of Mormon and how important it was for his parents to have one. It's amazing that we can study the words of christ in both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, both are amazing testimonies of Jesus Christ.

New Word in Spanish
"Codo" directly translates to the word "elbow," but Nicaraguans use it to describe someone who is cheap and kinda selfish (haha don't worry no one has asked me if I'm Codo).

Spiritual Thought
Another piece of advice that our mission president gave us is that we need to focus more on serving others in need. Service looks very different in various parts of the world but the most important thing is that we are bringing ourselves closer to God and Jesus Christ. It also makes a huge difference in the lives of those we are serving. Here in Nicaragua (and especially in La Dalia) service is a bit different than in the states, most of the people work on plantations of coffee, Bananas, etc so our mission president told us that we needed to buy our own machetes so we can always be ready to serve others during the day when we see someone in need. I know that all the service we give, no matter the manner or place we are serving is amazing and I am excited to focus more on helping others. One of my favorite chapters in the Book of Mormon is chapter 2 in the book of Mosiah. I love this message from King Benjamin about service in verse 17, that says "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." When we serve others, we are really serving God and we will receive direct blessings from him for our efforts!
