Another great week here in Nicaragua!

Hi guys!
Another great week here in Nicaragua! I feel like I am finally getting into the groove of things (the food, culture, climate, lifestyle, etc) which has been amazing. My spanish is still far from being fluent, but it's nice to know that I've gotten to the point where people can somewhat understand what I am saying! I've been able to share a lot in the lessons, make simple jokes, buy the necessities at tiendas (water, toilet paper, bread, the Nicaraguan version of milk, oreos, coca-cola, etc), and give directions.
Like last week, there has been so many miracles that I've been fortunate to be a part of. One of my favorite experiences happened last Thursday. I was on splits with another missionary, Elder Abbott, and we were finishing up contacting one of the smaller barrios outside of La Dalia called "San Martin II" when I got the prompting that we needed to revisit a lady named Isabel. Elder Flores (my comp) and I had met her a few days earlier. We were both pretty exhausted since it had been a long and rough day, but we decided we should follow the prompting and I am so grateful we did. When we got to her home, we found Isabel in tears. She had just found out that her mother had passed away and another close relative had an accident and was in the hospital as well. Even though my spanish wasn't perfect, Elder Abbott and I were able to comfort her in her time of need. She said that she had been praying to God for help when we came to her door, and she knew we were messengers from God. We were also able to share a part of the Plan of Salvation and give her hope that she would she her mother again. I am so happy that I was able to be an answer to someone's prayers and I am so excited that we have the opportunity to continue to teach Isabel more about the love God has for her and her family.

New Words in Spanish
Moto - Motorcycle/Dirt Bike
Pan de Mona - Banana or "bread of monkey"

Fun Fact about Nicaragua
In my area, La Dalia, almost everyone uses dirt bikes to get to where they need to go! The town is very hilly and there aren't too many paved roads, so people and sometimes entire families (I've seen as many as 5 people at one time) use "motos." As missionaries we walk or use busses to get to towns far away. The bus rides can be a little crazy sometimes but the views are amazing! The bus ride from La Dalia to Matagalpa is super pretty going through the forest.

Spiritual Thought
Life (and missions) aren't always going to be easy. There are always going to be challenges. I think of Aaron and his brethren during their missions and how they "suffered hunger, thirst, and all kinds of afflictions; nevertheless they were patient in all their sufferings," (Alma 20:29). After they had been rejected and thrown in prison, they continued to trust God. Once they were freed, the immediately "went forth to declare the word.. and the Lord began to bless them, insomuch that they brought many to the knowledge of the truth," (Alma 21:16-17). Just like sons of Mosiah, I know the Lord will continue to reward our efforts as we go forward with faith even when times are hard!
