Welcome to Nicaragua!
Hi Everyone!
It is crazy that I am already in the mission field! The MTC was amazing, I was able to make so many amazing friends there and learn so much. It was tough saying bye, but I am so excited to hear from them about how their missions are going.
On Friday I finally made it to Nicaragua! It has been amazing, I love the country, food, culture, and people here. My first area is La Dalia, which is in the mountains about an hour and a half bus ride from the closest city of Matagalpa. It is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen and the people here are so happy and kind. It is only a small branch of about 20 people but the saints here are so strong in the gospel. "Heckroth" is really hard to pronounce here so they call me Elder "Hecky" for short. My spanish isn't perfect yet either haha but the people here are so nice and the kids are hillarious too! My favorite person I have met so far is this 10 year old boy in the branch named Manuel, he loves to run up to us whenever we are by his house and teach the only gringo in the town spanish (he reminds me a lot of my brothers)!
My first companion, Elder Flores, is awesome too! He is from El Salvador and he is the best trainer you can ask for. I am so excited to continue to work hard and I hope that I can be an instrument in the Lord's hands! I love being in Nicaragua and I can't wait to learn more about the amazing people here.
New Words in Spanish
- I have learned A LOT over the last few days, but my favorite word sounds like "Twenty" and it means "super cool"here in Nicaragua.
Fun Fact about Nicaragua
- I love the food here, most meals consist of "Gallo Pinto" (Rice and Beans} and Coca-Cola!
Spiritual Thought
- Alma 17:25 "Nay, but I will be thy servant." I want to be a missionary like Ammon. He competely devoted himself to the Lord and to the service of the lamanites. Likewise I want to choose to serve the people of Nicaragua with all my heart, might, mind, and strength.
