Hey everyone! This week was awesome.
Yesterday, we ate lunch with the family of one of our recent converts, Aimar (she is 9). One member of our church (we don´t know who) told him he could see the past of people and objects. So at this house, he read the past and saw that someone had died there and was buried under the house. And then he told them that either the guys or girls would have nightmare. If the spirit was a girl, it would haunt the guys, and vice versa for a boy spirit. So the dad and 10 year old boy claim to have nightmares. And though I think superstitious ghost stories drive away the spirit, the dad asked us how to dedicate his home, and invite the Holy Ghost. So we all knelt down in a circle after we ate and he dedicated the home. Which was awesome! (Except for when our district leader, and Elder from bolivia said that it was good the elders were there because it brought more priesthood and power. That was super weird and incorrect because you don´t need the priesthood to dedicate a home since it is just a prayer not an ordinance). But it was a great spiritual experience for that family!
Also this week we went to the bishops birthday party! He turned 71. Our bishop has only been a member for 3 years and has never had a calling before. And the party here was super terrible. They gave us dinner which was cool but basically there was a guy playing music so loud I couldn´t think on the speakers, and like 25 members just sitting in chairs looking at eachother. Two people were dancing, and that was it. Nobody was even talking (the music was too loud). My companion told me this is usually how parties go down here. How disappointing.
We also practiced re-gifting there, apparently an important skill with fruitcake when Christmas comes around (so says my trainer) an investigator had just given us two giant lollipops, that we had in our backpacks. And since people were bringing him gifts we decided to give him one of the lollipops and split the other. Good decision, I have never seen bishop smile that big.
Also this week my trainer hit a year in the mission! We ate cake.
Also that kid who we were going to re-baptize? (cus they lost his papers) We moved that to two weeks in the future. We called them tuesday night to figure some things out with the family and asked for the kid´s birthday. Previously, we were told he was 11 and his birthday was in October. We called to confirm, and she said he was born in 2009. So we hung up but I quickly realized that 9 plus 11 is not 18, so we called back and told them their child was actually 9 years old. That was the funniest phone call I have ever heard. We could hear the whole family gasping in astonishment. Peruvian time works in many ways!
Things are awesome down in Peru! I get real sad on Sundays because our investigators who we call the night before (and in the morning) never come to church. This week 6 people told us they were going to come (none did). They tell us we dont need to knock on their door in the morning but this week we are going to anyway.
Talk to you all next week!My companion and I had a good laugh at 1 Kings 18 last night. Remember that God can work miracles! So long as we have faith!
