Hello everybody! I hope all goes well for you over in Utah or wherever you might live at this current moment in time. It's been pretty cool over here in PA, so let's go!
So, it's literally been cool in here in PA. It snowed at the beginning of the week, so that was exciting. Luckily, it wasn't cold and slushy, but instead dry and not cold, so it wasn't so bad walking around. However, on Saturday, it suddenly just shot up to 60 degrees and was warm until Sunday evening, when it suddenly dropped again to 48 or so. Basically, it's like I never left Utah. Not so cool is that Jen has been sick with the flu, so we weren't able to teach them the Word of Wisdom. It's been frustrating that we have been stuck for the past few weeks now, It's almost like Satan is good at his job or something. Luckily, Jesus is better, so I know that we'll get 'em soon. I have full faith that they will be baptized, so keep praying and break your fingers because you're crossing them so hard.
Another cool/uncool thing, depending on how you look at it, was the fact that we ran into two different bashers in two days (a basher is just someone who wants to bash with us, in case you don't know). The first guy was a potential we just stopped by. At first, he just said they were good with their church, so we said thanks and went on our merry way. About five or so minutes later, he came and found us and said he and his wife had talked and decided that God does everything for a reason, so he invited us to come back to talk. At first they showed us some videos of drone footage of stuff like Mount Sinai, Noah's Ark, and stuff like that. It was pretty cool I guess, I can neither confirm nor deny the truthfulness of these videos. We were talking and I brought up the Book of Mormon, and you could tell he was just waiting for that. We weren't really arguing per se, he was just telling us we really needed to truly pray about the Book of Mormon. We told him we do every day. He also brought up that the Book of Mormon wasn't listed in the Dead Sea Scrolls. Elder Hope asked how the Book of Mormon could be in the Dead Sea Scrolls when the Book of Mormon takes place in the Americas, and he didn't really have a good answer to that. We could tell that they were scared that the Book of Mormon was true, especially since they would keep changing the subject whenever we started making sense. They still have a copy of the Book of Mormon from the last time they were taught, so hopefully one day they turn back to it. We like to call them the Bizarro Handley's, because there's a member family named the Handley's that they remind us of. It's kinda hard to explain unless you knew both families, but just trust me about this.
The second basher we found was this rude lady named Ellie. On Saturday, we went to an apartment complex to drop off a Spanish Book of Mormon and Bible to a lady who had requested it. We had the Spanish elders on the phone and were talking with her, when out of nowhere this lady cames marching across the parking lot. She comes up and says "Hello, my name is Ellie. I'm a Christian." She had two packets of Skittles, so dumb little me was thinking she was going to give us Skittles as a way of thanks for what we were doing. Maybe I just really wanted those Skittles, I don't know. Anyways, she says something about how God is 3 in 1, meaning the Trinity. We told her that we believe they are three separate beings, and she made that "ah, of course" noise. She stepped onto the Spanish lady's porch and just started talking about how we're not Christians and stuff like that. She took the Spanish Book of Mormon/Bible from the lady and handed it back to us. I gave them back to the Spanish lady and tried just talking to her, but Ellie would not leave. She told us that when she got the keys to her condo just down the way, she was given the keys to "protect the community" and was sent by God at that moment to intervene. That was fun I guess. She kept emphasizing 3 in 1, so Elder Hope asked how they can be the same person if Stephan saw a vision of Christ on the right hand of God, and she just said 3 in 1, so oh well I guess. On Sunday, we found a super sweet lady who was excited to get a Book of Mormon and was super appreciative of us giving it to her, so that makes up for it I guess.
I don't have anything super profound for you today, just the fact that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and the only way for you to know if it is true or not. Bizarro Brother Handley told us that he prayed about the Book of Mormon and didn't feel peace, then changed the subject when I brought up real intent. That real intent is the game changer. If you have that real intent, meaning you will act on the answer you receive, then the Holy Ghost will reveal the answer to you. If you pray but don't have that intention to change, the Holy Ghost won't answer your prayers because you don't deserve that answer. I encourage you to find yourself a Book of Mormon, read from it (I suggest the introduction, Alma 32, and/or Ether 12), and pray about it. It doesn't matter if you've already done this before or have never read a word from the Book of Mormon. You can never get enough confirmations from the Holy Ghost. I also encourage you to act upon whatever impressions come to you. If the impression is good, it comes from God, so just act.
Until next week, have fun doing normal human things (unless you're a missionary, in which case have fun spreading the gospel).
(Sorry, no pictures again. I'll try my best this next week).
