What's up everyone it's Elder Andelin again. I know it's been a while so let me get you caught up on what's happened. I left the CCM at 2 in the morning last Tuesday and landed in Piura and it's awesome. I love it! Piura is a lot of desert and its very hot, but there's lots of trees and it's really nice in some spots. It is very poor here. Some spots more than others, but it's awesome, the people here are so nice and humble. It's also not as crowded here as Lima, so that's definitely nice. I got to the mission home and they fed us seviche (I don't know how to spell it). But it's basically raw fish cured with lemon juice and it's actually really good. In the field we can't have it cause it can make you sick, so I'm not sure why they gave it to us, but it didn't affect me so that's good. We got interviewed and we got assigned our first companion and mine is awesome. His name is Elder Guzman and he's this big black guy from the Dominican Republic and he's super funny. He likes baseball, music, and a lot of the stuff I like too, so we get along really well. He's also a really great missionary too and I'm learning so much from him everyday. My first area is called Jorge Chavez in the Castilla zone and I'll be here for the next 4 1/2 months. It's in the city so I'm not by the beach, but I have a Chilis and a Pizza Hut, so I'm not complaining at all haha. We have a pretty nice house for the area that were in. Don't get me wrong, it's a dump compared to the US, but it's not too bad. The food here is delicious. I have not eaten anything I didn't like. Breakfast is usually eggs bread and bananas. Lunch is cooked by the pinchinista, and it's always good. Dinner isn't a big meal here, so usually I don't eat dinner, but they have delicious hamburgers you can get off the street and pizza and stuff so the food is amazing. Today is P day and we played soccer. I had 3 goals! I went to the mall, cause I have the mall in my zone, as well. I also took a nap, so P day is still my favorite day of the week.
Now onto actual missionary work. My Spanish isn't too good yet. It is way better than it was in the CCM and I'm learning everyday, but It can be frustrating sometimes. Especially cause I want to talk to people, but I just can't understand what they're saying most of the time. Also, my companion only speaksSpanish too, so I haven't spoken english since I got to Piura. The language is a process. A typical day: we usually proselyte for a few hours and then teach 3-5 lessons, depending on the day. But the missionary work here is awesome. Yesterday, there was a group of people who were moving wood into their house and we went to help them and afterwards they asked us who were were and we were able to teach them the first lesson and now we have 6 new investigators, so that was a cool experience. But Im loving it so far, it's definitely an adjustment, but it's awesome. Thank you to all of you that have sent me emails. You guys are awesome, I can't respond to all of them, cause I don't have enough time, but you guys are awesome.
Alright first week in the field was pretty awesome. Today is my new P day and I will be writing at 4 or so every Monday for the next few months. Piura is so awesome. The food is awesome. The only problem is that it's literally all carbs and we don't really get enough exercise to cancel it out so I need to be careful! My companion said he's gained 20 pounds and he's only been out 8 months. Everyone gets fat here apparently. But there's a homemade pull up bar in our apartment so I'll be fine for these next few months. Missionary work is great. My spanish is coming along. It is definitely frustrating at times because I literally can't communicate, but that's ok, it's a process. Missionary work is pretty awesome. I've already invited someone to be baptized, done the anointing for 4 blessings in one day, taught lessons completely by myself and stuff, so I really have come a long way. Also, in one of the lessons a mother breast fed her baby like right in front of us, so the culture is a little different here, but Piura is pretty awesome. We can watch movies on P day, and on the list is Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2, and all of the Lego movies. I don't know why we can watch guardians of the galaxy and not Avengers and other movies like that, but it's pretty awesome. About the package, don't send the water bottle or the sweatshirt cause I don't need either of those anymore. But can you put some stuff in for my companion like food and stuff because I don't want him to feel bad or anything. But what I really need is a backpack, so put that in if you haven't sent it out yet. And for the food send Reeces, a big bag of sour patch watermelon and a big bag of Trolli gummy worms if you can find some. If you already sent it thats fine
